NEWSHAPES release new single ‘DEADWEIGHT’

Scottish Alternative Post-Hardcore outfit, newshapes, have today shared their brand-new single, ‘deadweight’, the opening track from their forthcoming EP, ‘a conversation with myself’. Setting the path ablaze with a ferocious, apocalyptic blend of alternative rock, metal and hardcore, ‘deadweight’, reflects on the idea that some things can only be treated as a lesson.

Speaking about the new single newshapes vocalist Ian Mann comments, “I was feeling angry and to some extent really hated myself while writing the lyrics for this record and deadweight is the track where i embraced that bleakness. It’s a song that I think retrospectively I’ve written about growing older. You learn to not keep doing certain things or being in certain places if they don’t make you happy but that doesn’t actively fix the problem, that is usually you, and how you see yourself. I’m facing that head on in this record. deadweight is the start of this conversation as we’ve called it where I am telling myself I need to really look inward to become a better me.”

Themes of self loathing, loneliness and feeling contempt beat at the core of a conversation with myself , the new EP from Scottish alt-rockers newshapes, due out on April 18th in 2025.

Showcasing a more direct injection of rock and metal than its predecessor, a conversation with myself sees newshapes subconsciously move away from post hardcore inspired sounds and dive head first into a straight up rock record. It’s an emphatic collection of honest encounters that delves into the band’s varied influences to create something that feels fresh and true to form. “This is a rock record, and we’re here to show everyone what we’re capable of,” shares vocalist Ian Mann
