Tetrarch // The Ugly Side Of Me // Album Review

9

Tetrarch’s third album “The Ugly Side Of Me” is set for release on the 9th of May.

It will come as no surprise to long-time fans that this band has honed its style, delivering yet another ripper album. Kicking off with “Anything Like Myself” a crushing track that has Limas and Lerner dropping a killer drum and bass combo for the track to build off, Fore jumps right in with his mighty vocals that are reminiscent of Chester Beddington as he switches from gruff to screamed in the blink of an eye and all of this before Rowe even gets a mention, her guitar play is off the chain from chugging riffs to a solo that flies under the radar, a monster opening.

“Never Again (Parasite)” slows it down slightly, with more emotion pouring through the speakers than the opener it allows Fore to show his versatility as he sings with more of a pleading cleaner tone that gives way to his trademark screams, some nice electro riffs run underneath the track giving it an extra bump, a great track. The kicking rhythm of “Live Not Fantasize” is build off a heavy industrial techno metal influence; heavy on the riffs, both guitar and electro wise with a booming bass line and thumping drum beat, Fore’s vocals are savage on this one while Rowe’s mesmerising solo will blow you away, this is a real standout track. Heavy on the bass, “Erase” has a cool groove, and the stuttering guitars mesh nicely with the electro riffs, but it is Rowe’s solo that puts the icing on another banging track. “The Only Thing I’ve Got” opens to a crashing drum beat and guitar riff that mellows as Fore comes in, switching between harsh verses and melodic chorus’ with a nice combination of metal and electronic styles, very like Linkin Park’s “Somewhere I Belong” and that is not a bad thing. “Best Of Luck” is led mainly by Lerner’s bass that plays nicely off Rowe’s funky riffs and Limas’ thumping drums, Fore’s pour forth in an aggressive manner, adding a ferocious punch to a cool track. “Crawl” brings the heavy with a booming low end thanks to Limas and Lerner creating a killer rhythm, Rowe and Fore don’t shirk their responsibilities either on the guitars as they throw out monster riffs. This is a track that gets better with each listen and will be amazing live.

The crunching riffs that open “Cold” set the tone for an absolute banger of a track, a snarling Fore leads us on a merry dance as the drums and bass give you a savage rhythm that will have you banging your head, the track gallops along and Rowe pulls out an other worldly solo as it all crashes around her, if this doesn’t get you moving there is something seriously wrong with you, probably the best track on the album. “Headspace” is slightly downtuned to give it a heavy foreboding feel and it works as Fore drops a couple of octaves adding to the feeling, the guitar work is massive as it once again meshes nicely with the electro beat, the back end of the track descends into chaos as it gets heavier and darker. The album closes with the title track, “The Ugly Side Of Me”, it is another cracker, opening to a cacophony of sound as the mixture of electronica and metal blend together seamlessly, Fore’s vocals on this one are amazing to the backdrop of an amazing soundscape, a brilliant finish to the album.
