The lads of Skinny Knowledge drop their latest offering ‘twentytwo’ today and let me tell you, ladies and gents, this one is a real beauty!
The album kicks off and kicks in the doors with its lead single ‘I Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll’ which sets the scene nicely for what is to follow. Self-confessed good-time rock ‘n’ rollers, Skinny Knowledge is a band that pulls influences from various genres like rock, pop-punk, grunge and good old-fashioned garage rock to great effect.
The album’s opener is an addictive earworm that will have you singing along to its anthemic chorus before the song completion, co-written with Matt Bigland of Dinosaur Pile-Up it shows the boys from Skinny Knowledge aren’t afraid to flex their musical muscles when needed. ‘Disobey’ the album’s second track is a real banger, it actually puts me in mind a little of British rock trio Raveneye who had this uncanny knack of delivering hefty riffage in a completely addictive fashion, ‘Disobey’ is no different, high-energy, frenetic and one that will be an absolute animal live!
‘Strike’ is good old-fashioned pop-punk at its finest, like Sum41 at their heights it’s an absolute slamming track that makes you wanna go on a rager with your mates, a future classic for sure, whilst ‘Going Up In Smoke’ is more of a Grunge-infested rockathon that just makes you want to crank it up to 11 and give a solid middle finger to anyone that complains.
Another one of my favourites on the album is ‘Goes Around Comes Around’ which is dripping in attitude and grit, gnarly guitar tones backing up the hefty vibe of the lyrics and message behind them, I have to say it is refreshing and a pleasure to see young bands coming through of this quality, still flying the flag for their genres. Skinny Knowledge has produced an album of real quality, thick bitchin’ riffs, killer melodic hooks and all perfectly wrapped up for your pleasure to enjoy Friday, October 27th.
Grinning from ear to ear, the high-energy Skinny Knowledge lads assure, “We’re super excited for everyone to hear ‘twentytwo.’ as it’s for all, for everyone to enjoy. If you’ve ever been through a break-up, had any hard, difficult times and are feeling lots of mixed emotions, there will definitely be something on this album for you!”
I couldn’t agree more – it’s a perfect slice of pop-punk-indie-rock pie!
