Steel Panther // On The Prowl // Album Review

9

The Panthers are back, lock up your daughters because they are “On The Prowl’! As you would expect, this is not an album for the faith-hearted and that’s just how we like it! I’ll never forget my first encounter with The Panthers, I used to work in luxury car sales for my sins and one of the perks was a company car, or the ability to take a car home when you wanted to try one out also, and low and behold I went home in a trade-in, turned on the music system and was greeted by “Death To All But Metal” and my life has never quite been the same since.

Unbelievably Steel Panther drop their sixth studio album on Feb 24th and in what feels like a blink of an eye they are still at it, still on the very top of their game with their latest release. It feels like a blast from the past once again listening to the latest Steel Panther release with a collection of 80’s hair metal classics with a very deliberate sense of humour that just takes it home.

Opening with the killer “Never To Late (To Get Some Pu**y Tonight)” you know you are firmly back in the world of Steel Panther, it’s blistering start just whets the appetite for those Sunset Strip classics and with Satchel’s blistering guitar work and Michael Starr’s signature vocals you are in for a treat.

“Friends With Benefit’s” carries on that theme, with a gnarly riff opening up the track and biting guitar work over the opening verse you know Satchel & Co. are at the very top of their game once again! The guy’s ability to fuse humour with the best of rock is something that sets Steel Panther apart from so many who have tried to walk the walk before them and failed. Steel Panther have that perfect melodic edge that allows the music to be taken seriously even while your ribs hurt from laughing at the lyrical content. They bring the modern world into perspective with tracks like “On Your Instagram” proving a poke at the chaos we have created in this virtual world of #fakenews

“Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is” will no doubt be another fan fav with its slamming DLR/Jason Becker-esque vibe you’ll be up on your feet dancing the night away with your gaggle of ladies (or men) till the sun comes back up.

The Lead single “1987” brought the magic of this album to the fore way back when and we can now wrap ourselves up in that warm jizz filled blanket that is “On The Prowl” cos it’s here folks, that day has arrived and it is available for you to devour at your pleasure. 13 bitchin’ tracks for you to get your Steel Panther rocks off to and prep yourself for that monstrous US + European tour coming your way!

This is a slice of 80’s perfection, like Tawny Kitean rolling around the top of that Jag, lets all take a moment to pause and appreciate what is in front of us, #steelpantherforpresident

Rock On!

As Steel Panther has ventured into the musical instrument space with the successful release of three guitar pedals: the legendary Pu**y Melter, Poontang Boomerangand Butthole Burner; the band is back with another must-have piece of gear – the 1987 pedal. The pedal is a combination distortion and delay pedal that can give any guitarist the signature sound of that classic year. The pedal will retail for $198.70 (see what we did there?) and as only Steel Panther can describe: “With the grit of 100 chainsaws and the ability to repeat itself more than that super stoned dude from Chemistry Class, it is truly the ultimate badass accessory…next to eyeliner.” The 1987 pedal is available for order here: https://steelpantherrocks.com/collections/on-the-prowl.

ABOUT STEEL PANTHER:

History falls on two sides of one line. There was the age before Steel Panther—but let’s be honest, no one cares about any of that. And then, there was the age after Steel Panther, which is all that matters. Since Steel Panther clawed their way out of the Sunset Strip and onto the global stage, rock ‘n’ roll has kicked ass once again.

For the uninitiated, Steel Panther was formed in 2000.  They have continuously flown the flag for heavy metal higher than anybody this century. 2009’s Feel The Steel announced their arrival as saviors of rock, showing guests such as Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, and Scott Ian of Anthrax how it’s done! On its heels, Balls Out [2011] boasted collaborations with everyone from Chad Kroeger of Nickelback and Nuno Bettencourt to Dane Cook. The group unleashed a string of banging LPs, namely All You Can Eat [2014], Lower The Bar [2017], and Heavy Metal Rules [2019]. Meanwhile, they earned ink from Billboard, Classic Rock, Consequence, Metal Hammer, and more, tallying hundreds of millions of streams views in the process. They’ve logged countless miles on the road (and stolen groupies from) Aerosmith and Stone Sour in addition to leaving festivals such as Download begging for more. Steel Panther is a global phenomenon with five full-length albums, touring across the world, platinum-level You Tube status and high-profile television appearances such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Larry King Now, and FOX NFL Sunday.  Now, the quartet—Michael Starr [lead vocals], Satchel [lead guitar], Spyder [bass], and Stix Zadinia [drums]—reach another level altogether on their sixth full-length offering, On The Prowl.
