Nita Strauss // The Call Of The Void // Album Review

9

So, I have to confess this is my very first venture into a Nita Strauss album, Nita has been dropping singles as she approached the release of her second solo studio album ‘The Call Of The Void’ which follows up on 2018’s ‘Controlled Chaos’ which saw Nita step out from Alice Cooper’s shadow and gain acknowledgement and respect as an artist in her own right. Alongside Nita, she has collaborated with a number of killer vocalists on the album to add further weight to her already bitchin’ songs including Alissa White-Glutz of Arch Enemy, Chris Motionless of Motionless In White, Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, David Darmian of Disturbed as well as Anders Friden of In Flames, just to mention a few!

A star-studded affair indeed, which only strengthens a seriously savage album, generally instrumental guitarists such as Nita tend to sway towards the more melodic to appeal to a broader audience, but not so here, the heft is gargantuan. Nita’s riffage is savage from track to track and fits perfectly with the additional weight added by some of the best vocalists in modern metal.  What you get is an explosively charged album just waiting to take your head off at any moment! The album is of course dappled with instrumentals in between the tracks with guest vocalists so it allows Nita to stretch her musical muscles and showcase exactly why she is regarded as one of the best female guitarists on the scene today, but boobs aside, I don’t think we need to break it down between the sexes when it comes to guitar playing, she’s a killer guitarist all round and blends the melodic with the brutality that is raging under her fingertips at will across this stellar album.

The beauty of collaborating with such quality musicians is being guaranteed a first-class quality outcome, from the songwriting being top-notch to the production you can enjoy every bit of blood, sweat and tears poured into this creation by Nita and all involved. Artists from Nita to the vocalists on the recording are the best in the business and wouldn’t put their names to just any project, so you can be rest assured there isn’t a bad track on this album, it’s all killer, no filler!

The album from start to finish exceeds expectations, Nita’s guitar work is stunning and the collection of vocalists adds a further layer of ‘Please Nita Can I Have Some More?” well as it turns out yes, yes you can! The digital version of the album includes instrumental versions of the standard release with the vocalists. #nitaforpresident
