House Of Protection // Outrun You All // Album Review

This is a new one for me, I know absolutely nothing about these guys but have to say I was suitably impressed by what they are putting out, a killer blend of electronica and metal from the combined talents of former Fever333’s members Stephen Harrison and Aric Improta.

The EP opens with the quirky electro number with a title that has weird symbols you couldn’t even begin to replicate on an average keyboard before jumping into “Afterlife”; a slow grinder that has a savage groove due mainly to the drum beat from Improta that builds in intensity through the verses before the soaring chorus kicks in, the guitar and synth combinations throughout the track are polar opposite but work brilliantly. “Fire” bursts through your speakers with crunching riffs and a massive synth onslaught with pulsating drum beat underneath it all, it is full on and only really drops in tempo around the chorus’, the cheerleader backing vocals adds another dimension to this one, setting up a monumental ending as it all goes off. “Godspeed” continues the push with a killer mixture of electronica and punk; the hook from the chorus is insane and is in keeping with the rest of the infectious groove of this one. You can see this being played everywhere as it has mass appeal. “I Need More Than This” is more rock-oriented with its crushing bass and drum beat with heavy reverb, echoey vocals and a synth riff that runs in the background, a more mainstream sounding track but great nonetheless. “Phasing Out” sees a complete shift in styles in that it is a more electronic-based number with ambient synth riffs paired with a cool drum and bass beat that permeates the track. This is a gem of a track and something that catches you unaware. “Slide Away” closes the ep epically as they combine every facet of their collective styles they can muster from rock to punk to electronica, simply put sublime.

This was an eye opener for me as I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it is a cracking EP and only leaves you wanting more!
