“There’s a retro look to the video, and a similar retro feel to the song, appropriate for a group that specializes in blending 1980s electronica and darkwave, with the more accessible electronic pop of today.” (V13.net)

“…something from your uncle’s rave, and that’s not at all a bad thing. Swooping in like an echo from the ’90s, the single…With its laser-guided synths and high-octane beats…( Buzzbands LA)

“Nothing short of intense  dance music with a dark edge.” (EARMILK)

Acclaimed Los Angeles-based Battle Tapes craft electronic rock that blends 80’s electronica and darkwave with the poppiest and most accessible of what Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails have to offer. They are set to release their upcoming single/ video “If Only” on 7/8/22 from their upcoming album Texture, due out 10/21/22. The band states “We live in desperate times. Bombarded 24/7 by the chaos of the world, and our own lives. The overwhelming barrage of violence, bigotry, corruption, and hate is exhausting. I feel like I barely have time to process what happened this morning before I’m on to the next headline. ‘If Only’ was born out of those feelings of desperation and powerlessness that invite comfort of apathy and ambivalence.”

Battle Tapes have been featured on various movie trailers, TV shows and, video games, including ‘Girls’ (HBO), Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar Games), ‘Mr. Robot’ (USA), ‘League of Legends Championship Trailer’ (Fox Sports) and ‘gEN Lock’ (HBO) ‘Invincible’ (Amazon).

Let me know if you can post the video/track, interview Battle Tapes, or review the album. More info below.

Songwriting/production duo Josh Boardman and Riley Mackin spent the better part of 2018 in the studio on various projects, including Childish Gambino (Mackin mixed and recorded Awaken My Love, and recorded “This is America”), before turning focus back to their own creative outlet and beginning work on a follow up to 2017’s Form EP.

Formed in 2010, the band cite Kraftwerk, Massive Attack, Soulwax, The Prodigy, and Daft Punk as primary influences, which plays into their meticulously programmed live show and cross-genre style. Their first output arrived in the form of the 2011 extended single Sleepwalker, which they followed with the five-song
EP Sweatshop Boys. Their debut LP was issued in 2015. Polygon featured the singles “Belgrade” and “Valkyrie” as well as “Solid Gold,” featuring Party Nails’ Elana Belle Carol. In 2017, they released the Form EP, featuring “Last Resort & Spa” and “No Good.”  In 2019 they opened the year up with their latest single “Weight of the World.” Now in 2022 they return to bring us their first single “If Only” from their forthcoming album Texture.
