Red Method // As In Life // EP Review

London lunatics Red Method are set to release their latest offering, EP “As In Life”, on the 17th of July, the hotly anticipated follow-up to their crushing debut, “For The Sick”, from 2020.

Upping their game massively the six tracks on the EP will blow you away with their ferocious intensity and power; the opener, “Counting Corpses”, a smash you in the face track that feels like they have taken all the best parts of the entire metal genre and mashed them together for you listening pleasure, there is death, tech, nu and thrash all combined to assault your senses, Perry’s drums and Beardy’s bass give the track a serious amount of heft while J.S.A.N.G.R.E.’s vocals are next level, from his death growl to his screamed to his snarling, they add to the overall ambiance, as for Yacka and Tobin’s guitars; the riffs are heavy as hell and the solo is killer, this is a track that will make you sit up and take notice. While still possessing the intensity of the opener “Dispose Of Me” goes a little slower and heavier with a pounding drum beat from Perry and a monster bass line from Beardy which lays the foundation for the track, it becomes more melodic around the chorus’ with J.S.A.N.G.R.E. going all haunting vocals in between his demonic side, the riffs from Tobin and Yacka are brutal which and in stark contrast to Yacka’s masterful solo, this is just another demonstration of how to play metal properly, an insane track.

“All For One, None For All” is a beast of a track, the groove that runs through it is epic, compliments of Perry and Beardy’s dual attack on drums and bass, respectively, alongside the meaty riffs of Yacka and Tobin, J.S.A.N.G.R.E. tears it up as he once more goes into overdrive vocally with his deathly growls at their most savage, the polar opposite to his clean which are angelic in comparison, Yacka melts faces once more with another ripper solo, this is hands down the best track on the EP. “Detonate” kicks it up a notch with its sharp riffs and groove-laden rhythm; this one is relentless, a non-stop barrage that has shades of Slipknot. A blistering drumbeat drives the track, with J.S.A.N.G.R.E.’s versatile vocals delivering death growls and eerie clean vocals as required. Another monster track. “Becoming The Sickness” is brilliant; from its intro to the creepy spoken first verse with its foreboding instrumental backdrop that explodes into a face-melting chorus with death style and clean vocals to the undeniable monster groove that runs throughout the whole thing, an unreal track that has everything good about these guys wrapped up in a very intense five minutes. The EP closes with “The Revolting Self” a track that will have you actually question whether you are still listening to Red Method, as it is a piano-led, haunting orchestral piece that is completely at odds with everything that has gone before. Hopefully, this is just the calm before the storm of a new album.
