BLACKWATER REDEMPTION // BLACKWATER REDEMPTION // ALBUM REVIEW

One look at the album cover gives you a strong sense of what this band will deliver on their debut. Hard & Heavy Southern Blues, but they are not from the American deep South; they are from the English South Coast. The music hits you hard with chunky riffs that stampede out of the speakers. The four- piece display their influences from the off as the music gallops like a Stallion in search of a mate! You can hear the groove in their hooves. In their DNA you will find the likes of Skynyrd, Metallica and Slipknot. They have shared stages with Skid Row, Schenker and Inglorious; this tells you exactly the audience they are targeting.

The record blasts off with ‘Stand For Something’, which is a strong message in these uncertain times. Dan DeVires’ bass and Chris Allen’s drums are huge; add Tyler Hains’ guitar, which is both rampaging and rocking! To complete the sound, Adam Chambers’ vocals have poise, purpose and plenty of power.

‘Ride Or Die’ is possibly the fastest track on offer; it is full of fury & fire, with plenty of explosive guitar. ‘All Guns Blazing’ follows in heavyweight fashion; Blackwater Redemption don’t hide their identity. They are simply a force of nature, a gang of outlaws who will be ripping and roaring from stages near you.

The final track offers something a bit different; lyrically, ‘Walk Beside You’ is written from the perspective of a father who knows he won’t always be there to protect his children, but hopes they will always be guided by his presence. As a song, it really gives Chambers the chance to showcase his range; musically, it is brilliantly embellished. Throughout the record, there is good variety and changes of pace, ‘Praying For The Sun’ being a great example of this as it embraces a mid-tempo range.

You can’t define Blackwater Redemption as newcomers, as they have existed previously as Western Sand, where, as a group, they gained much experience.  Hains and DeVires were actually thinking of calling it a day but had a change of heart, kept writing and brought in Chambers and Allen. This record is strong, full of passion and enthusiasm, making it something that most of you will more than enjoy. Get on your horses and ride!
