Terror // Still Suffer // Album Review

LA legends Terror are here to remind you just who the best hardcore band of all time is.

Formed in 2002 in Los Angeles from the best of the best in hardcore at the time, Scott Vogel (Buried Alive, Slugfest), Todd Jones (Carry On) & Nick Jett (Piece By Piece). Creating Terror in a time where the underground needed a new breath of life, bringing back that old school hardcore sound.

With years of touring the globe 1000 times under their belt, albums that influenced what we know as modern hardcore sound & even writing some of their best material in recent years (Terror have NO bad albums), the band have firmly cemented themselves as THE band to keep the hardcore spirit alive in 2026.

“Still Suffer”, the band’s tenth album, is a relentless showcase of Terror’s unwavering dedication to those who struggle, having given up, by reaching out & giving the youth something to hold onto in these trying times.

Once again, working together with ex-guitarist Todd Jones to produce the album. With engineering and some additional production by the master of all heavy music, Taylor Young, at The Pit Recording Studio, mixing by Jon Markson, and mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. with additional vocal engineering by Jay Zubricky at GCR Audio, and drum engineering at Studio 606 by Taylor Young and Oliver Roman.

The album’s opening track “ERASE YOU FROM MY WORLD” starts with a thunderous bassline from Christopher Linkovich, as the track builds, the band brings a great heavy bass drum, big chugging rhythm sound & at its peak, Vogel lets out a primal scream! Then the band goes into their fast-paced hardcore sound we all know and love.

Its breakneck speed drags you along for the ride. Vogel is pissed & he wants you to know it. With one of his most violent yet clearest vocal deliveries in some time, his performance cuts you right to the bone. “I hate myself for all the shit that I did” resonates so well with everyone—regretting all the painful things we’ve done to others. The passion within Vogel’s words hit deep. This track goes quick, but it’s the perfect opener to remind you Terror are here for one thing: to kick your fucking arse.

The anthem of 2026, “STILL SUFFER”, was the first track released on the lead-up to the album. Filled with the now-classic formula the band found on “Keepers Of The Faith,” this track has hard & heavy verse sections for moshing & a big, anthemic singalong chorus that works perfectly. Every album, the band creates these everlasting live staples, & this is gonna be one.

The heavy riffing & guitar tone on this one from Martin Stewart & Jordan Posner is unmatched. These two are some of the tightest live guitarists you will ever see on a stage. And it translates so well to record. Big open power chords blend so well into the hammer-like palm-mute verse sections, but the guitars build nicely as they hit the big chorus. The best thing about these guys is that they know how to write some of the best transitions in hardcore. The track flows, keeps the energy high & focused, and that’s what the core of hardcore is.

“DESTRUCTION OF MY SOUL” is a nonstop rage-filled track, think Agnostic Front meets Obituary… I know it sounds wild, but this track has that great, fast energy of classic NY hardcore throughout its short runtime. All lean not fat on this one. It keeps the vibes & energy high. Until Vogels screams, “There’s only one way out… Burn it to the fucking ground”. Then, like a ten-ton hammer, the band hits a breakdown with the groove & rhythmic chugging of an Obituary-style swampy breakdown. Keeping a great pace & even giving us a moment when the tempo turns up a notch, then back down to close it out. This one is gonna be deadly when the band puts it in their live set.

Giving us a quicker breather, the opening beat to “BEAUTY IN THE LOSSES” gives a great early 90s NY style feel before the track really begins. Featuring a superb guest vocal from Mindforce frontman Jay Peta (who also created the great intro beat), this is a great-paced track. Reminding me of an “Always the Hard Way” or “The Damned, the Shamed” era track, it has hard-hitting elements but also a great bounce to its rhythm. Peta’s vocal style really feels at home on this one. The great back-and-forth, double vocals from Vogel & Peta help elevate an already great track. Which has a very positive outlook & you feel it; after the track is done, you feel uplifted & it leaves a lasting impression on you.

For those who like tracks where Terror lean into their barbaric “Lowest Of The Low” era, this track is a nonstop assault—really showing how a simple breakdown-style riff, when written well enough, can serve as a thematic thread throughout a track. Also, it’s a great, solid case of how hard a hitter drummer Jett is. Well known for his fast-paced chops, I think he gets overlooked for his heavy tom work, thumping kick drum foot & tribal grooves. Get your new mosh moves ready for this one.

The closer on the album “DECONSTRUCT IT” features a track, I believe, that showcases the hardest frontman in modern hardcore. Featuring ft. Brody King (Gods Hate) & Dan Seely (King Nine), you gotta have a track that matches their prowess, & luckily this one is one of the heaviest the band have written to date. “This is the hardest part.

I took myself to war. Vogel touches something deep inside, while the band has created a soundtrack to the apocalypse. The breakdown section on this track with all vocalists, Vogel, King & Seely, is one of the hardest things I’ve heard in hardcore for a while—utter chaos.

“STILL SUFFER” is yet another flawless album within an already perfect discography. Terror is flying the flag for hardcore in 2026, & with a band with such a strong legacy & still relevant in this modern era, it is no easy feat. This album showcases the band’s deep history while keeping their sound exciting, vibrant & true to themselves.
