The July Crowd splay emo with pop-punk on heart-rendering anthem, “Like Home”
The July Crowd are back with their first new music of the year, a moving winter warmer doused with emo intonations.
On “Like Home”, The British Columbia trio merge a sharp hybrid of driving guitars and infectious hooks, as they tackle the personal grief involved in overcoming a broken home.
The alternative outfit have also signed to Manic Kat Records.
Speaking on the new track and subtle directional shift, lead vocalist Dom Walters explains: “Like Home signals a significant musical shift for us. Personal life, and the past few difficult years have crept into the way we usually write songs, creating something much more cathartic, emotional, and expressive.”
Walters continues: “I’ve been writing songs because they help me work through major events in my life. This time around, on Like Home, I’ve been able to work through something I’ve been suppressing for a while now. Maybe others can find comfort, solace, or understanding in growing up in, or living in, a broken home.”
2021 debut EP Roses & Adderall showed the trio’s potential, but it was 2023 effort Seat of Your Pants that clarified The July Crowd’s status as a must watch breakout band in the scene. The sophomore collection showcased a potent and infectious soundscape, with driving guitars and catchy choruses underpinning the Canadian trio’s early sound.
The band’s subsequent singles continued to develop and refine their direction, seamlessly sprinkling introspective emo tones on on their pop glazed punk rock. Crowd pleasers like “Complicated” and “Happy Ever (Afterthought)” would propel the trio into the speakers of alternative fans across North America and beyond.
Fans of Good Hangs, Hot Mulligan and Real Friends will be captivated by the band’s first release of 2026, their most introspective and least pop-punk leaning to date. “Like Home” is an impactful blend of building guitars, poignant song writing and soaring melodies.
