Strap yourselves in, folks, Slaughter to Prevail are back and are not here to fuck around. Having quickly obtained a reputation as being one of the heaviest bands around and packing out venues across the world, it is now time to step up to the plate and show that breaking records for the biggest wall of death at Hellfest and having over one million monthly Spotify listeners are great, but the music is the most important.
Having seen an unlikely alliance between Alex Terrible from Yekaterinburg, Russia and Jack Simmons of Essex, England, the long-distance exchange of ideas and music quickly became this monster, a violent one at that, just like Terrible, who also spends his time bare-knuckle boxing.
This juggernaut of a release is 50 minutes spanning 13 tracks and goes hard from the start, so please don’t expect a warm-up; there isn’t one! The heaviness is there from pressing play with heavy riffs, blistering and precise drums that are matched by a brutal vocal, the result of which is devastating.
This release features a few guest appearances, the first of which is Ronnie Radke from Falling in Reverse on ‘I’mDead’. The unmistakable voice of Ronnie elevates the track and immediately makes me hope that he can get into the country and perform it with the band in Brixton next year so that I can enjoy it fully.
We swiftly reach the already released ‘Viking’ – the song that got my future stepson into the band and led to me booking tickets for Brixton, which will be his first gig and we soon reach ‘Song 3’ featuring guests Baby Metal. Baby Metal adds something different, and then ‘Lift That Shit’ follows, a straight-up banger.
By the time you reach the end of the album, you will feel like you’ve done 13 rounds with Mr Terrible as he has jabs, haymakered and uppercutted you for 50 minutes in the most one-sided fight you could ever see! Please don’t throw in the towel, though; this is aggressive music made for people who want to throw down whilst getting slapped by the hardest sounds.
From start to finish, this is top drawer and no doubt will elevate the band to that level where they are troubling the top of the bill on stages at festivals and who knows where from there.
Grizzly will be released July 18th via Sumerian Records.
