Well, well, well, Black Stone Cherry are back! This time, they are graciously giving us an exclusive collection of tracks perfectly curated for Record Store Day for all lovers of vinyl everywhere. Due for release physically on 12th April and digitally on 18th April via Mascot Records, this collection includes B-sides, covers, live tracks, and previously unreleased songs taken from the band’s expansive discography together for the first time on a limited-edition vinyl. The new release will be available on CD and a limited run of 3,000 white and black smoke marble vinyl worldwide, 500 of which are reserved for UK fans to get their hands on. Perfect for the avid vinyl, merchandise, and memorabilia collector.
Some of these songs were previously released as bonus tracks taken from deluxe configurations of BSC’s catalogue. Other tracks are previously unreleased live recordings. Side A contains the studio tracks (bonus tracks, B-sides, Cherryfied covers of The Cult, Tina Turner and Tracy Chapman, plus guest vocals from Ayron Jones, John Cooper (Skillet), Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage), and Lzzy Hale (Halestorm). Side B has the live tracks. This is the first time that all of these tracks will be available in one physical collection.
Black Stone Cherry has set a new standard for Southern rock. The four-piece consists of Chris Robertson, on vocals/guitar; Ben Wells, on guitar/vocals; John Fred Young, on drums and Steve Jewell Jr. on bass/backing vocals. This band of brothers are a sonic whirlwind, if you have ever caught a BSC show live, it is a breathtaking experience; their energy on stage is unparalleled. For RSD we have this glorious collection of tracks that once again remind us what BSC are all about, kicking off with American Horse (ft. John Cooper & Ayron Jones) two killer musicians in their own right, fused together with BSC’s in your face gritty hard-hitting rock you have a track that blows the doors off the bloody hinges and gets the heart racing. BSC’s gnarly riffage and killer vocals are supplied by all, and they just create a pummelling opener for all to enjoy.
Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach takes the reigns on ‘Out Of Pocket’ this one is a real banger, Jesse’s normally up against a wall of distortion with KSE but this one is more of a round rocker and it’s great to hear Jesse’s vocals against a more commercial sounding track, Up next we get the bands to take on the classic Tina Turner track ‘ What’s Love Got To Do With it” Tina, of course, being transactional a bit like Trump, she does love a good tariff also! Mostly on love. Give Me One Reason (The Plug) is a cover of Tracy Chapman and offers yet again another unique take on her original, the studio tracks wrap up with ‘Have You Ever Been Lonely’ and ‘I Miss You’ both tracks driving home BSC’s signature stadium-sized anthemic quality in every song they write.
The B-Side of the album is a collection of live tracks, which, as I had stated earlier, is all about the raw, visceral side of BSC and their magnetic live performances. This album is an absolute must for any die-hard BSC fan, the limited run of 3,000 white and black smoke marble vinyl will send heads into a tailspin no doubt, and good news for our UK fans as we have 500 of which are reserved for them to get their hands on! Who loves ya baby! Black Stone Cherry, that’s who!
