Carnivore Diprosopus // Rise of the Insurrection // Album Review

The Colombian kings of Death Metal are back!
Carnivore Diprosopus have returned with a new album & the first since 2013’s “Condemned by the Alliance”.

Starting in 2002 & based in the early days in Bogotá. Carnivore Diprosopus were helping to build on the wave of brutal death metal in the early 00s. Joining bands like Devourment, Pathology & Internal Suffering the group’s roots were in that classic 90s sound but with the brutality turned to the max.

Their newest material “Rise of the Insurrection, ” released by Comatose Music, might just be some of the most punishing music the band have crafted to date! Featuring nine tracks of pure armageddon & savagery.

The opener “Insurrection Ordinance” creates a great intensity, and shows you off the rip just how barbaric they are with their sound. “Begin Redemption” quickly follows with a flurry of chugging verse sections that get the headbanging started early. Carnivore Diprosopus’s strength has always been able to add a great sense of melody to their music.

Now that’s not saying the band are weak, if anything this makes them more brutal than most. Adding in different guitar riffs under the main riffs draws the song out in a wider spectrum & captures your ears straight away. The use of changing speeds & bpm keeps this track engaging & has you on the edge of your seat a few times!

Making a guest appearance on the album Angel Ochoa (Abominable Putridity, Cephalotripsy, Disgorge etc), “The Onslaught… Cyborg Tank Division” is a lesson in bludgeoning. The mix of Oscarnivore T-666’s & Angel’s vocals is a pure menace & adds a great dynamic to the track & just increases that sickening sound the band is creating on the album. The bridge section of this track too is one of the most ridiculous of the album. Pure limb-breaking breakdown slams on this section.

The latter half of the album “The Refaim Machine Brigades” is my favourite on the album. This track has a real primal feel. It merges the line between “meat & potatoes” but adds moments of dissonant or technical ability that keep it so captivating.

The guitar work from both Jose Rondon & Andres Zuleta on this album is unmatched. Just the guitar tone they have worked at has paid off. Deep & gruelling but with so much clarity & cuts so well within the mix, which within BDM can be a hard thing to achieve. Also with songwriting & truly inventive riff structures, these guys have created something legendary of their legacy.

Carnivore Diprosopus have been able to live up to the legacy they carved with their first few albums.

“Rise of the Insurrection” doesn’t just build upon the band’s previous material but it also projects them forward & shows that they have so much more gas in that blood-covered chainsaw they have welded for so long!
