To The Grave // Everyone’s a Murderer // Album Review

9

Building on the success of the 2019 debut album Global Warning, Australian Deathcore and animal rights activists To The Grave are about to drop their third full length album.

Using the voice as a platform to speak up about the rights of animals and those that defend the animal holocaust and the fact that those who fight for those that cant must stay silent to avoid being caged themselves.

The 5-piece band have put together a 10-track album that spans approximately 35 minutes and let’s get something straight from the off – this going hard and goes in from the start. Opening with ‘Set Yourself on Fire (In Public)’ smashing your skull with pure brutality as the blistering Deathcore takes no prisoners and tears your face off. With destructive breakdowns and some serious Slam elements – this is not for the faint of heart.

Musically the album is flawless, with precision drums that sometimes are programmed for this kind of music, however here we have them being played live and fuck me they’re cripplingly good. Guitars have delightful Death Metal chugs that are balanced with pedal squeals and make your stance widen. Then we have the vocals, with pig squeals meeting guttural lows this finishes an amazing all-round sound that is genuinely brutal.

As the album progresses, and rage through tracks such as ‘Burn Your Local Butcher’ and ‘Vegan Day of Violence’ you pick up on the fact that the heavy isn’t just for heavy sake and is because it is what they do and do very well.

It’s rare to find an offering that is this brutal and yet doesn’t sound forced and is just their sound meaning that the album flies by. When its done you can survey the destruction left behind as you suddenly realise that you have been completely engrossed and lost control of your body windmilling and spin kicking your way across the house.

It is straightforward to see why this band has toured with Cattle Decapitation, Thy Art is Murder and Vulvodynia and it won’t be long until they should be at a similar level as these bands – the standard of this album is that high.

If you like heavy and brutal – you must give this a go. It is easily my favourite brutal album of the year so far.

Everyone’s A Murderer will be released on August 30th 2024 via Unique Leader Records.
