Three Days Grace // Alienation // Album Review

9

Three Days Grace return after three years with a new album and original frontman Adam Gontier back on vocals once again. The Canadian rockers have been through it all over the years and bring with them a lifetime of experience to the fore with their latest release, ‘Alienation.’

The band’s sound has grown once again with Gontier back on vocals as he joins Matt Walst up front to turn the band from a quartet into a finely tuned quintet. The sound is obvious by the time you hit ‘Apologies’, the band’s second track on the new album, where both vocalists shine as they interweave across the vocals. This follows a banger of an intro in ‘Dominate’ that drives home the band’s hungry, cutting, fresh sound.

One thing that is quickly apparent is the melodic quality that cuts right through; in no time, you will be warbling along with every track as they flow one after another. The production makes every song sound huge, anthemic in quality, adding to the unrelenting passion pouring through your speakers. The dual vocals do add that extra little bit of something special that demands your attention. It would have been easy to stay in the status quo or replace one singer with the other, but I feel the band have made the right choice by bringing these two forces together to create a wall of melodic tsunami to bring to band to another level.

There isn’t a bad track on the album; each one hits harder than the last, thicker than the previous and more addictive as you get into it. The band’s years of experience mean that they can spit these bangs out like bullets, one after another with ease as they make light work of curating a soundtrack that will win over an army of new fans and keep those thirsty love affairs happy too.

Without a doubt, Three Days Grace have put together a killer collection of tracks that will keep their hungry fan base happy for years to come. This may be a new chapter for the band as they evolve their sound and prepare to take on new challenges, but if a band ever sounded ready for it, ‘Alienation’ is the perfect soundtrack for that journey.
