Signs of the Swarm // To Rid Myself Of Truth // Album Review

8

I was amazed to realise that this is the Pittsburgh bands sixth full length release and that their first release Senseless Order was out in 2016.

Slamming out the releases, with an average of two years between them, this one lands within the regular time frame and this 40 minute belter continues the run of quality as well as quantity. There I an evolution with this release and whilst there may not be so much Slamming brutality, there is a while heap of Deathcore brilliance with a heavy nod to that original brutal sound.

From pressing play, you will feel the blend of the old with the new and it sounds crushingly stunning. With a clear influence by the likes of Meshuggah, Gojira and Fear Factory, the industrial sounds are welded together with that Brutal Death combining chaotic and chugging riffs, shattering drums and an abrasive growl to round off the sound that has been once again produced by Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore and King 810)

I guess however that when you scrap much of the writing two months before you enter the studio to “Be. More. Pissed” you know you have to bring the heavy and bring it in ways you haven’t before.

The result is something that is stunningly crushing and brilliant, full of energy and emotion which has been shaken and stirred with a whole heap of rage. To Rid Myself Of Truth blurs the lines of genres and sub genres providing something that the brutal fans will enjoy as well as the Deathcore crew, all can throw down together in this monster of an album.

There are some guest appearances to throw in to the mix with Will Ramos on ‘Clouded Retinas’, Phil Bozeman on ‘Iron Sacrament’ and 156/Silence and Prison on ‘Fear & Judgement. These additions bring something slightly different to the other tracks and again will help merge the lines between sub genres.

From start to finish this album rips, its going to stir up the deepest parts of your fortitude and test it to the limits. Its bloody good though and certainly pushes Sigs of the Swarm to a new level and very much forward in their sound and growth. The development of the sound works; it does not feel pressured, and in some ways, it feels like the band has been able to be organic and let that emotion flow.

To Rid Myself Of Truth will be released on August 22nd via Century Media.
