The self-titled fourth album from Seahaven is a thing of beauty, twelve tracks that capture you from the start and get better with each listen.
Opening with the soft atmospheric “Godsend”, a track that eases you into the album before jumping into “Hellbound”; a punchy track that has a more rock feel to it with chugging riffs and great rhythm thanks to the understated bass line and drumbeat and when you throw in Soto’s silky vocals, it elevates the track even more. “Infinite Blue” is an absolute belter; driven by a fantastic rhythm from Findlay on the drums and DeBartolo on the bass, which, when combined with Soto’s dulcet tones and both his and Christian’s wizardry on the guitars, takes the track to another level and envelops you. “Midnight Hour” is a little heavier, with the bass coming to the fore and sharp riffs that just crush- a rocking track. “February Flowers” is the epitome of easy listening: softly strummed guitars with a delicate drumbeat backing it up and Soto’s smooth vocals that draw you in- simply put, amazing. The calming synth opening on “Remember Me” warms you up for another easy listening delight with a groovy rhythm courtesy of De Bartolo’s fabulous bass and the laid back drumming of Findlay, the guitars are in sync with Soto’s melodious tones adding to the overall relaxed atmosphere, there is an odd ending to this one, it is like another song has been interrupted midway through and tagged on, quirky.
“Highwire” is one of the best songs on the album. Soto once again leads the way with his unreal voice, and the rest of the band rows in behind him to make an amazing track. The guitar tones are echoey and dream-inducing, while the understated drums and bass give it a brilliant, subtle low end. “Million Ways” is more upbeat with a kind of pop-punk rhythm, but it’s the chorus that wins on this track; it’s catchy as hell. This track is a serious earworm; believe me, you will catch yourself humming it and tapping your foot as it will be on a loop in your head. “Tidal Wave” is a cracker, led by a monster bass line and thumping drumbeat. Soto takes it up a notch, giving it an edge which matches the intensity of the instruments. “Long Goodbye” is a faster, more intense track than anything else on the album; the booming bass and incessant drumbeat propel this one. Soto’s vocals are on fire as he rips through the track, while the riffs and solo from him and Christian are pure class, as is the dead stop at the end of the track. “Wedding Bells” is a stripped-back ballad track, with a slow, reserved drumbeat, easy slide guitars and Soto crooning away.
Closing out the album is “Companion”, a mid-paced track with a thumping heartbeat rhythm running throughout, evoking a sense of yearning; a crisp riff coupled with Soto’s spoken vocals makes for a magical way to wrap up a brilliantly crafted album.
