Zurich’s deathcore poster boys Paleface Swiss have returned with the complete edition of their latest album “Cursed”. Featuring their phenomenal album that was released in January 2025 to much acclaim, the band have gathered three previously stand-alone singles from 2024 (“Best Before: Death,” “Please End Me,” and “The Gallow”). Also, a brand new bonus track “I Am A Cursed One,” and the stripped back acoustic version of their signature ballad “River Of Sorrows” featuring special guest Ron Deris.
The album’s opening track, “Hatred” fits its moniker. Feeling like the opening to classic nu metal/deathcore albums like Slipknot’s – Iowa or Suicide Silence’s – The Cleansing, this track has you by the throat & will let no relent. This stomper is the perfect way to grab you as a first-time listener, giving you a dark, passionate look into the PFS & the horrors they create.
“My Blood On Your Hands” is one of the most depraved & glorious tracks on the album. Opening with vocalist Marc “Zelli” Zellweger’s agonising vocals echoing like a cry out from a dark & introspective place. This track is bludgeoning, violent & downright heavy. It might have an under 2-minute run time, but with every passing second, it gets heavier & heavier.
The bonus track just for the album “I Am A Cursed One” might just be the most barbaric PFS track to date. Melding elements of groove, blackened death metal & a nu metal stomp, this track has it all. The opening blasting from drummer Cassiano “Cassi” Toma is like a machine gun to the chest. As it builds the band switches into the first breakdown of the track. And it doesn’t stop their, the band builds the track brick by brick to craft this inventive & provocative track that blends elements of old Carnifex & Emmure to create this pairing that would normal feel forced, But merging these darker elements with bouncy, catchy riffs create a track that had me hooked right from the first second. Do not sleep on this track!
The album’s closer “River Of Sorrows” is a side of PFS I’ve never heard before. A stripped back unplugged version of the band that right from the first few opening chords had me in the palm of its hands. Still a very raw & exposed glimpse into the band, this track feels tragic yet elegant.
It’s a real showcase of how talented the band is. Also featuring a second guitar appearance by Ron Deris this closing track feels like a beautiful way to close out the complete journey of “Cursed””.
Paleface Swiss are on a rocketship right now. Becoming one of the biggest deathcore bands, with a ton of stellar tours & buzz the band is still taking chances. Allowing themselves to be raw which allows the audience to relate & feel a close connection to the band. This complete version of this era of the band is a superb one. Packed full of great singles. New tracks & a beautiful closing track this is a must listen for any PFS fan or the best way for someone who’s never checked out the band to see the band at their best & current are. A true gem of a release.
