Pierce The Veil // The Jaws Of Life // Album Review

9

Pierce The Veil are back with their latest offering “The Jaws Of Life’ a blistering collection of eleven angst-ridden beauties that will melt your face, make you pick it up off the floor, slap it back on ,and then melt your face all over again.

The San Diego (Whales Vagina) natives are now five studio albums in and this one surely has to be their finest to date, it encompasses everything that the journey across their previous recordings has brought to the fore, killer songwriting, multi-layered, multi-faceted tracks that are engaging, emotive and hefty as fcuk!

The album’s opener “Death of an Executioner” has a cinematic quality that sets up the album beautifully, pushing and pulling you with its gargantuan production, you are left screaming “Gimme More!”  “Pass the Nirvana”  carries on that theme with another heavy-hitting track that pummels you to the core before “Even When I’m Not With You” gives you an opportunity to catch your breath. Showcasing their softer side reminds you that PTV are more than a wall of distortion, “Emergency Contact” has that pop-punk vibe we can all relate with the band and again provides a warm blanket of pop-punk goodness to lose yourself in, “Flawless Execution” has a darker and more sinister sound which demonstrates the guy’s ability to flex their musical muscles when they need to.

Likewise, “The Jaws of Life” does the same taking you on a musical rollercoaster as the guys sonically treat you to an audible feast with a quirky number that takes you through various twists and turns before “Damn The Man, Save the Empire” kicks in with a tasty distorted hook and a familiar melodic vibe that you can just imagine being an absolute killer anthem live.  “Resilience” lures you into a false sense of security as a slow burner before building up to a crescendo with a seriously tasty earworm of a chorus towards the end that will no doubt have you on your feet dancing around your kitchen and warbling in unison! “Shared Trauma” takes you off track with an EDM-esque mellow track to cleanse the pallet once again before the gnarly PTV re-emerges to face-melting proportions with “So Far So Fake”  a gnarly track with a real bite that sonically is a beauty, from the disjointed sounding drum patterns against the time sequence of the guitar work it all comes together beautifully with a blistering chorus and killer feel, a great track and one of the albums highlights for me.

“12 Fractures” wraps things up with a dreamy 60’s sounding track to kiss you on the head and send you on your way.

Jaws of Life is a killer collection that will surely re-establish Pierce The Veil at the top of their game after a seven-year absence with 2016’s Misadventures. A sharper, more mature PTV are back with the bit between their teeth ready to kick in a few doors.
