Denmark’s Lifesick are back with their ten ton hammer swedish death soaked hardcore chaos.
Formed in 2014 & merging the classic Swedish HM2 chainsaw tone with apocalyptic style breakdowns to create one of the heaviest sounds in recent years. Signing to Metal Blade Records on the release of their 2023 “Life And Other Lies” EP the band have quickly become the hottest band within the subgenre underground.
Their first full length on Metal Blade “Loved by None, Hated by All” see the band go even further within their sound to create a soul crushing album.
With its opener “Death Wish” it gives you everything you want straight away. That ungodly tone, check.. Catchy riffing? Check..
With its hipswinging swagger this track pulls no punches & has no gimmicks. Just pure pissed heavy riffs. Which is what we want right?
With a quick & sharp stab “Double Cross” is just a fury of a track. With a under two minute run time this one is like a shotgun blast. A fast no thrills opening that merges into this great breakdown meets two step section, this track is lean & fucking mean.
Guitarist’s Nicolai Lindegaard & Nikolai Lund really shine on “Legacy of Misery”. Writing really powerful stompy riffs but keeping the forward momentum this track had it all for me. Great pinch harmonics that really accent the brutal riffs & the tone that have craft on this album is just perfect for the style they have created.
Thankfully, with a list of names to help round out the album’s sound recorded the album & with production help from Jacob Bredahl at Dead Rat Studio. Mixed by the ever amazing Taylor Young at The Pit Studio. And finally mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Mastering Studio. This really rounds out the album & gives it a fantastic overall cohesive sound throughout.
“Poems for My Funeral” is my favourite track on the album. Fulfilling my caveman love for slow, death doom style riffs, this track’s opening one is a swampy, dirty, gore soaked delight. As the track continues the back picks up the pace but still keeps that darker tone & it’s the brutalist track on the record just thanks to its cracking the earth’s crust it’s so heavy closing breakdown.
Now where the last track might have been the heaviest, the semi title track “Loved by None” might just be the pissed off this year!
This track has a machine gun-like power to it. With vocalist Simon Shoshan’s painful & poison tongued screams drive the tracks pure chaotic nastiness. And let’s not forget drummer Jeppe Løwe’s ridiculous blast beats on this track that is flawless. This track is going to be a warzone live. I can tell you that….
“Loved by None, Hated by All” is a true showcase of how the modern merging of death metal & hardcore should be done. The amount of top notch hardass riffs, blast sections & pissed off breakdowns that have been able cram into this record is truly phenomenal. If you love Nails, Hatebreed, Entombed & Harms Way this is the perfect record for you!
