4th April 2025 – Roots rock & roll four-piece, Jawbone announce their new album Jawbone II, set to be released on 23rd May via 5dB Records (anaiis, Ashaine White, Mackwood), along with the release of stellar new track, ‘Horizons of Hope’ – listen here – and an accompanying visualiser of the single – watch here.
Following the initial track ‘The Tide’, the group’s first single since 2018, ‘Horizons of Hope’ offers another insight into the soundscape of the band’s upcoming album Jawbone II.
‘Horizons Of Hope’ initially formed when the band was pondering on feelings of uncertainty. It was around the time of the pandemic when the idea that things may never be the same again initially became a common feeling – one that unfortunately still lingers for many. Utilising the group’s innate tendency for the brighter things in life, the quartet chose to take that uncertainty and reflect it as a theme weaving itself through their songwriting.
The track was elevated once more through its mixing process, during which engineer Javier Weyler brought the groovier elements of the song’s multi-layered composition to the forefront. It was then that ‘Horizons Of Hope’ truly began to embody its title and stand as a beacon of optimism whilst urging its listeners to embrace the positive things in the world, and all the unknowns it may hold.
Speaking on the song and how it came to be, the band states: “Some songs come easily and others require more work. With ‘Horizons of Hope’ we knew we had something good but we were struggling to finish it. We would come back to this song a lot in our writing sessions at Paddy’s house. In one particular session, we really felt like we had almost nailed exactly what we wanted to say in this song but we were running out of time as our respective children needed picking up from their schools. Neither of us could put the song away so the lyrics were finished in a flurry of text messages between us as we ran to the schools.”
To record all tracks from the upcoming album, the band initially gathered around the piano in Paddy Milner’s north London house. From there, the songs they created were taken to 5dB Studios, as the decision was made to play the album as if it were in a live setting. The energy this provides across the record is electric, evident in songs such as ‘Horizons Of Hope’. A further stand-out element is the band’s three-vocalist set-up, which provides unique and room-filling harmonies, merging exquisitely with the talent provided by each as masters of their respective instruments.
Jawbone – Marcus Bonfanti (guitar/vocals), with Paddy Milner (keys/vocals), Rex Horan (bass/vocals), and Evan Jenkins (drums) – have individually spent the last 25 years playing with a host of legendary musicians, including Tom Jones, Jack Bruce, and Van Morrison. The band formed from diametrically opposite corners of the world in 2014, having worked together previously in London, and released their debut album Jawbone in 2018, which they followed with a series of shows around the UK and Europe. Their music tells the story of each and every member but is also greater than the sum of its parts. They are a band that got together for no other reason than to write and play music that makes them feel good.
