Hockey Dad have unleashed their 4th studio album ‘Rebuild Repeat’ into the world. With three singles leading into the release including the triple j Hottest 100 entrant ‘Still Have Room’, ‘Base Camp’ and current single ‘Safety Pin’, fans have already had a taste of what the duo call a “fresh rebirth after a muddy, hazy couple of years for us and everyone else in the world.”
Hockey Dad worked with Alex Burnett (Thelma Plum, Sparkadia) and Oli Horton (Foals, Alice Ivy) on ‘Rebuild Repeat’. The creative relationship has seen Zach and drummer Billy Fleming stretching themselves creatively and embracing new sounds which, whilst unmistakably Hockey Dad, take the band into an invigorating new direction
“’Rebuild Repeat’ as a title kind of describes the process of making a new record as a band,” vocalist / guitarist Zach Stephenson said. “You only have yourselves as raw materials. You knock down what you had from the past, re-design, rebuild it and repeat. Hopefully you learn some structural integrity tips along your way.”
It’s been ten years since Zach and his childhood friend, drummer Billy Fleming formed Hockey Dad and released their debut ’Dreamin’ EP which featured the massive ‘Seaweed’. Fast forward to today and they can look back proudly on four studio albums, a bunch of EP’s, live albums, Gold and Platinum record sales in Australia as well as two Top 10 albums, including their last album ‘Brain Candy’ hitting #2 on the ARIA Charts. They’ve built a loyal fanbase in corners of the world with constant tours across Australia and New Zealand as well as Europe, Canada, US and UK and performing main stage sets at some of the world’s biggest festivals.
To celebrate the release of ‘Rebuild Repeat’, Hockey Dad will start their Australian tour with a SOLD OUT show in Perth on Friday 21st June at The Rechabite before heading to Adelaide on Saturday 22nd June at Hindley Street Music Hall. Then it’s over to Brisbane on Saturday 29th June at The Fortitude Music Hall, Melbourne on 5th July at Margaret Court Arena and finishing in Sydney on Saturday 6th July at the Hordern Pavilion. LA’s Militarie Gun will be joining Hockey Dad for the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney shows. Hockey Dad will be back in the UK and Europe in August / September with countrymates Ocean Alley. All dates below.
Reflecting on how their performances have grown over the years Zach said: “The feeling on stage playing remains the same over all this time. It’s just deep trust and brotherhood. These new songs sound very different live, Moshers fear not! Come hang out at a show. Sing some songs, see friends and make friends.”
