Born out of the Orange County, California DIY scene, popfree induce an energetic, passionate sound built on the influence of emo, post-hardcore, and indie rock bands such as No Knife, The Jazz June, Braid and Cursive. Today, the band release their new full-length Overt, out through New Morality Zine. The band gives an expert display of dynamics across seven tracks, moving between winding riffs, captivating rhythms, and lush textures in a seamless flow. Jacob Beaver’s emotionally charged vocals deliver lyrics about struggle and connection that anyone can grasp onto.
On the album’s messaging, Beaver shares:
“I feel like this album is very human. A lot of it is about the hard feelings that we go through; sadness, anger, and disappointment. I believe music is a beautiful outlet to connect and reflect on those types of things. The overall message is to never give up, which is ironic because the opening track of the LP is called ‘Giving Up.’ It’s about the feeling of doing just that. Feelings like this are ones that prove to be difficult to talk about openly or comfortable, and we hope that with these songs, we are able to give people struggling with those feelings an outlet to connect with and not have to feel like they’re going through it alone.”

Overt was recorded and mixed by Colin Knight at Paradise Studios in Anaheim, California and was mastered by Ben Harris.
