Jacksonville, Florida’s cosmic death metal newcomers HAXPROCESS are showing us “Beyond What Eyes Can See” with their second album via Transcending Obscurity Records.

Formed in 2020 Haxprocess delivers a very special type of death metal. Taking influence from classic bands like Morbid Angel & The Chasm & adding a more modern flair of Blood Incantation to create this epic sound that perfectly blends the brutality of early 90s death metal with the experimental & ethereal sounds of more technical bands like Opeth & Atheist.

The band’s first album “The Caverns of Duat” was a self released album that the underground grabbed onto quickly. The DNA of the band was birthed with the albums but the group’s newest & sophomore release “Beyond What Eyes Can See” sees the band create their own body of work with a truly phenomenal album.

“Where Even Stars Die” , the album’s opener sets the scene perfectly. With a single bell ring the album’s vibe is quickly built. A single clean guitar riff soaked in reverb echoing into the void before the band on a dime come in together & build this great steady pace. The band slowly increases the speed & intensity until the track goes full throttle.

Lothar Mallea the bands guitar & vocalist then begins his assault. Reminding me of early era David Vincent his delivery sets the tone. The rest of the band Shane Williamson (Guitar), Davis Leader (Bass) & Adam Robinson (Drums) are super talented musicians. The riff writing just within this first track is superb. It’s engaging & keeps you on your toes. It gives you great hooks but has enough technical elements to keep you paying attention & wondering where they might go next.

The choice to keep the album at four tracks but extend the track times to near & over ten minutes lets each track feel like a journey. Just within this first track we go from ambient second, great paced technical death metal & close out on a death doom style breakdown ending of the track (which is bloody brutal by the way). Showing us the listener that the band has many different styles they can pull from to create interesting tracks.

Track three “Thy Inner Demon Seed” has this great face melting intro section that Trey Azagthoth would approve of. These brief sections get brought back into the verse section but the drummer Adam Robinson puts this great forward pushing beat underneath that allows the track feel like a battering ram. As the track continues the band plays with dynamics but at the same time as these great little brutal sections to make you remember the force the band still has. Giving me hints of say Immolation or early Blood Incantation.

As the track hits its midway point the band allow this time to take a step back & give us this gorgeous clean section. Again the drumming by Adam Robinson is fantastic on this, Hitting jazzy sections to give what could be a very simple & plain section life & diversity. As the band repeats the section they bring it alive even further but adding distortion & power which gives it balls & really gives the track an epic feel.

A little bit later in the track there is a dissonant section where Lothar Mallea gets to use this higher register & more screeching style vocal which give the track a nice different flourish. They do it for a few repeats but once it’s done it’s gone which I think is great. Giving the track this little highlight that perks the ears & keeps the sound’s overall dynamics great.

“Beyond What Eyes Can See” is an imaginative yet also grotesque album. Melding everything you could want from a cosmetic style death metal album. everything from complex technical guitar riffs & drum patterns, to brutal, chugging & galactic style death doom sections & capping off with these clean ethereal & touching clean moments to create an album that is a true journey. You don’t want to miss a single moment & it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole run time, from its first few opening seconds to its epic closing minutes.

If you’re looking for a band to scratch the itch that Blood Incantations last album has left you with, you love the classic sound of Morbid Angel, Atheist & Immolation then this album will be perfect for you. A true melting pot of styles & surprises throughout.
