You would be forgiven for thinking From Ruins have been around for donkey’s years due to their sound and unbelievable tightness when in fact they only formed back in 2023, which makes this offering all the more amazing.
The band blend a mix of metalcore, groove metal and good old-fashioned metal to give you a killer listening experience. The EP opens with the title track “Poison For Your Soul” an eerie atmospheric little number that is merely warming you up, shades of Parkway Drive’s “Crushed”, and a nice growl at the end to bring you into “The Cure”; a metalcore style track that runs the gamut from screaming vocals to clean melodic but heavy as fuck, the drum beat penetrates you as it blasts from the speakers combined with a savage bass line and killer riffs, there is no let up to this frenzied assault, simply stunning.
“Until We’re Gone” opens up with a bouncing groovy beat that is heavy as fuck, the refined cleaner vocals are more prevalent here but when the speed and ferocity hit the screaming intensifies, dragging you along for a monumental ride in between a seriously catchy chorus, this is track of the EP and one hell of a banger. “Backseat” finishes it off in a flurry of pounding drums and massive riffs, the clean and screaming/heavy vocals play off each other perfectly, matching the intensity of the instruments, an excellent way to close the EP.
The best thing and worst about EPs is that they give you just enough to leave you wanting more but not enough to satisfy. A brilliant EP from a great band, hopefully, a full-length album will be following soon.
