The Cybernetic Domination Tour

When you hear the term Stacked Lineup, this is what they mean! Four killer bands covering four very distinct genres, and on a school night? Bring it on!
It is a seriously early start tonight here at The Limelight Belfast; doors are at 6:30, and by that stage normally peeps are still leaving the city after a hard day’s graft, never mind queuing outside one of Belfast’s finest venues for a four-band slammer on a Tuesday night in Belfast! Last night we were balls deep with Skald and The Hu at The Telegraph Building, and tonight we are being treated to a veritable feast for the ears!
Tonight’s opener, The Nocturnal Affair, all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, brings a wealth of experience and all the gnarly hard rock vibes as the vision of singer-songwriter Brendan Shane. The band play a savage set that gets the Belfast crowd whipped up into a frenzy, a blend of Groove Metal packed with crushing riffage and killer vocals; they are a powerful outfit with all the polish you expect from a top American band. Well worth turning up early for, but next we have something completely different.

Next up we have Hate, a Polish Blackened Death Metal band, quite the contradiction to our opener, but that’s what you get these days on a stacked lineup, a dolly mixture of bands to try and bring in as varied an audience as you can get. Tonight’s lineup is for sure a crazy ensemble covering all four corners of Metal as we know it in 2026. Hate are masters of their art; if Black Metal is your bag, then you are in Heaven tonight. A blackened depressive heaven! These cats are gnarly; the music is frenetic, a powerhouse performance by the band that has the building shaking to its core. If you came here looking forward to Crystal Lake and even The Nocturnal Affor and walked into this, you’d probably shit your pants. Just how Hate want it.

A quick changeover, and one of the bands I was really looking forward to seeing was Crystal Lake, all the way from Tokyo, Japan! Jesus h Christ, if you thought you knew what you were in for, think again! These guys went ballistic from the moment they hit the stage till the moment they left; it’s such. Rare thing to see a band being the energy on this level across a set like these Japanese badasses did tonight! These guys were on another level! I’ve always admired Japanese culture. I used to work for a Japanese brand about 10 years ago, and once you step inside that world, the discipline, craftsmanship, and attitude you learn a lot. Am I surprised that a Japanese Metalcore band are playing tonight like they’re the headliner? Nope, not at all, but my god it’s pretty fucking special to witness in the flesh. Every inch of their being is out there for all to see on stage tonight, a monstrous performance, solid as a rock and heavy as fuck! Crystal Lake are a thing of beauty; what a way to announce yourself to Belfast.

Finally, we are ready for tonight’s headliner, Fear Factory!
What can you say about this band that hasn’t already been said? For over three decades, Fear Factory have left a gargantuan imprint on the modern metal scene that cannot be understated. As I look around the room, I can see many musicians from the local metal scene all here to pay respect to one of the best bands in the business. With a soundtrack so thick and heavy, we may need medical assistance as we exit the building afterwards! The band opens with ‘Acres Of Skin’ and from there decimates The Limelight with blistering track after blistering track, pummeling everyone from the front row to the back and everything in between. I can see fists clenched in the air, grown men warbling along to their favourite tracks as original co-founder Dino Cazares rips his way across a killer soundtrack. Frontman Milo Silvestro plants himself centre stage with a raised platform to rest his foot on as he wails his way across a testing setlist.
The band are on fire; every song is greeted with screams of joy and every closing phrase with rapturous applause and calls for more. The soundtrack has the Belfast faithful living their best lives on a school night, It doesnt matter to the Northern Ireland crowd, any day of the week they will be there in numbers to support a legacy band such as Fear Factory, they always turn up.
Tracks like ‘Powershifter’, ‘Edgecrusher’ and the new track ‘Robotocist’ drive the crowd wild; a Fear Factory frenzy ensues as bodies start coming up over the top as security staff scramble to get to grips with it. But it was the closing tracks that had Belfast in awe: ‘Demanufacture’, ‘Zero Signal’, ‘Replica’ and ‘Resurrection’ just brought the house down. As we had such a stacked lineup, we got a solid taster to Fear Factory’s return to Belfast; hopefully they will be back sooner rather than later to show us how it is all done, as Dion said in an earlier interview in the day with Pete from The Rig Rundown, new music is on the way and should be due late 2027. So we look forward to yet another Belfast date, more thick riffage and a bloodthirsty Belfast crowd counting down the days till they return.
