Delilah Bon // Princeless Princess // EP Review

9

So this is a curious one! I have been popping out press releases for Delilah Bon over the last few years, and this is my first time giving her music a spin. Delilah’s new EP lands this week, and I have seen her rise over the last few years on the UK scene like a phoenix from the flames!

Her ballsy attitude and gnarly reputation have won her an army of young female fans who appreciate the optics of a strong female forging her own place in a male-dominated world. Time for change? Deliliah certainly thinks so, and I am confident she’s not alone!

2025 is pretty fucked up already, so I know the angst and passion that Deliliah resonates through her music will connect with a blood thirsty audience who need a release from the daily grind.

What we have here is a four-track EP that delivers her message like a kick in the balls! Right from the off, Delilah’s spitting lyrics like bullets and you know immediately this is going to be one gnarly joyride, beyond the messages within the tracks for whom so many will be pulled in or put of by, the sonic quality of Deliliah is there for all to see, the songs cut like a knife, deliver on every level and grab you attention like a blow to the head.

Deliliah has her own thing going on; the vibe behind the lyrics is playful, with the melodies being tossed around in the background, grounding each song so you get pulled in deeper as you delve into the EP. It’s a pity it’s only four tracks, as you could get lost in her mesmerising recording for quite a while, your senses get challenged at every turn, there is so much going on that it feels a little overwhelming at times, before she pulls it all back in and brings you back down to earth. Each track is an explosive expression and my only recent reference that I can pull on that I’ve listened to would be the likes of Hyro The Hero, digging deep about the issues that drive them, feed their anger and fuel their passion to take it to the masses. I can only imagine the live experience to be as volatile as the recording, and I think that would be a blast!

I was chatting the other day while at the launch of a festival celebrating upcoming local artists here, and I was speaking with the lovely AX (Frontwoman of Final Thirteen). I was just saying, watching a young woman command a stage is a beautiful thing and must be a powerful inspiration for any young girls in the audience who aspire to do the same. I can only imagine how powerful a performance the likes of Delilah would deliver live; her music is fierce, cutting and impossible to ignore. Her latest EP, Priceless Princess, is a thing of beauty, one for the independent thinker. A lot is going on on so many levels, but I promise you, it’s worth it.

Princeless Princess is out now.
