Irish nu-groove band Cell Games return on Friday 5 June 2026 with their explosive new single, “HELLWORLD”, a furious examination of rising intolerance, religious influence and the creeping sense that society is moving backwards. Originally conceived as a recording project by guitarist Tristan Carroll and vocalist Maximillion Foy in 2020, Cell Games have been making serious waves on the Irish metal scene since 2022. Completed by Deb O’Brien on bass and Niall O’Carroll on drums, the four-piece channel the intensity and groove of classic nu-groove while injecting it with a distinctly modern outlook shaped by years of experience across the underground music community. Recorded in Belfast in early February with producer Josh Sid Robinson (JSR Audio), “HELLWORLD” represents a first for the band. Unlike previous releases, the track was recorded before ever being tested in a live setting, allowing the band to approach the song purely as a studio creation from the outset. At its core, “HELLWORLD” explores the growing feeling that progress is being undone. The song reflects on the resurgence of intolerance and targeted hatred in public discourse, questioning why attitudes many believed had been left in the past are becoming increasingly visible once again. |

The track’s use of Latin lyrics and religious imagery reinforces these themes, pointing towards the re-emergence of organised religion and its influence on public life. Notably, “HELLWORLD” becomes only the second Cell Games song to feature lyrics in Latin, despite none of the band’s members claiming it as either a first or second language. The song’s second verse contains an overt reference to an infamous former teacher, whose highly publicised disputes surrounding religion and education have become emblematic of wider cultural tensions within Ireland. As uncompromising as its message is, “HELLWORLD” also contains one of the band’s most unexpected studio moments. During recording, a bin was accidentally knocked over in the control room, forcing producer Josh Sid Robinson to grab a hoover and clean up the mess. The band quickly noticed the appliance produced a remarkably consistent note a slightly sharp A#. The sound was sampled, pitch-adjusted and layered into the chorus, where it remains buried within the synth arrangement of the finished recording. With a growing catalogue of hard-hitting singles and a reputation for delivering an intense and memorable live experience across Ireland and the UK, Cell Games continue to establish themselves as one of the most exciting emerging names in modern heavy music. “HELLWORLD” will be released on all major streaming platforms on Friday 5 June 2026. |
