Car Bomb // Tiles Whispers Dream // EP Review

8

It’s been a long 6 years since we experienced the chaos and mind-bending music of Car Bomb, but the wait is over, just in time for the upcoming tour.

The band that was originally formed in Long Island, New York, in 2000 the band gained attention with their genre-defying aggression, complex structures, and explosive sounds that let’s be honest could be the result of a Car Bomb.

Having released their debut in 2007, the band self-released the second album, featuring Joseph Duplantier of Gojira, in 2012. More releases followed by way of Meta in 2016 and Mordial in 2019 – so now it is time for Tiles Whispers Dream to see what mind fuckery it can create.

The 3-track EP causes havoc for 13 minutes, and for the uninitiated, it’s probably safest that it’s not too much longer.

Whilst very much having their sound, if you threw Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Gojira into a blender, threw it against the wall over and over again before pressing the start button, you would be about there with Car Bomb.

As ‘Blindsides’ starts, that industrial guitar chug begins and is immediately followed by the low growl of the vocal and drums crashing all around you in some sonic attack, the kind that films depict in use during torture, but for some of us, we choose to listen to.

The pace changes, the sounds and effects are unpredictable, and it’s like experiencing mania with your senses on defence mode as they are attacked from all angles.

The fact that you will be in a state of Fight, Flight or Freeze isn’t going to let up any time soon, so don’t expect a reprieve; it’s not coming, and no one is on the way to help you!!

By the time the title track closes out the EP, you will feel like your brain has been attacked and you are knackered after this assault, but it feels so good and you can’t help but want more, much more.

This EP is by means for the weak of heart, those of a nervous disposition or anyone uncertain of themselves. It will tear you apart and enjoy doing it, but for those of you who are fans of extreme chaos, then strap yourselves in and enjoy, I certainly did.

Tiles Whisper Dream will be released on 1st August 2025.
