Buckcherry // “Vol 10” // Album Review

9

As the title suggests Cali rockers Buckcherry are set to release the tenth album on the 2nd of June, a balls-out, rock-n-roller, that will appeal to die-hard and fair-weather fans alike.

“This And That” opens the album with a hand-clapping, toe-tapping beat before it all kicks off, Todd’s cool vocals really set it off as LeMieux and Ruiz lay down a seriously funky bass and drum beat with both Stevie D and Rowe kicking ass on guitar duties, this a groovy rocker that has a side of blues that is a cracking way to kick things off. “Good Time” is a riff machine that is full on from start to finish, Todd’s vocals are killer and backed up by a kicking rhythm section and guitars that are off the chain, Stevie D’s solo is sublime, it is the epitome of rock-n-roll.

Upping the tempo significantly is “Keep On Fighting” with a frantic beat that is very reminiscent of Velvet Revolver with its kind of punk attitude that gives the track a nice edge, once again the guitars rule with another savage solo from Stevie D. “Turn It On” slowly builds before blasting from the speakers with a cool rhythm and some gnarly riffs that sound like some old school GnR, to be honest, this one is a slow burner that takes a few listens to before you release this is a classic bit of rock. Coming in like a lost track from the Hysteria era of Def Leppard is “Feel Like Love” with all the hallmarks of a late 80’s early 90’s rock ballad, it’s good but a very stereotypical type of track.

“One And Only” is heavier than its predecessors and has a darker feel to it, Todd snarls his way through this one giving a real edge to his vocals while the crunching riffs and thumping drums drive the track, a real contender for track of the album. “Shine Your Light” is a straight-up rocker that packs a punch, a heavy drum beat and chugging riffs kick this one along; Todd’s silky vocals are top-notch here with a booming bass backing it all up, this one will definitely get you moving. “Let’s Get Wild” is a throwback with touches of AC/DC, Motley Crue, and Dokken to mention a few, its brilliant and needs to be blasted as loud as possible, the rhythm is killer as the drums and bass bounce off each other while the guitars from Stevie D and Rowe are epic, a few ripper solos thrown in are just what the doc ordered, air guitar heaven, this is possibly the best track on the album. The groove coming from “With You” is insane, another brilliant track that is driven by powerful drums and heavy riffs that chug along like a freight train as Stevie D shreds big time while Todd’s languid vocals draw you in, this is absolute monster track. The second last track, “Pain”, is another ballad that is more melancholy and heart-wrenching than “Feel Like Love”, the symphonic interplay with the guitars is brilliant along with the piano work which all culminates in a rousing crescendo, a powerful track. The album closes with a great cover of a true rock classic, “Summer Of 69”, while some covers don’t do the original justice this one does and in spades, it’s a little faster and heavier, which is not a bad thing, a great way to finish the album.

Buckcherry “Vol 10” is out on the 2nd of June and for long-time fans you know what to expect from these guys but for the newer ones, strap in and enjoy a killer rock-n-roll trip
