Autumn Lies Buried // Mob Mentality // EP Review

8

Autumn Lies Buried are a five-piece band that hails from Clarksville, Tennessee and has just signed to indie label Exitus Strategem Records – the band is about to release this five-track EP. Described as having a unique blend of metal and rap, this Deathcore outfit is pushing the boundaries of genre blending, and it’s guaranteed that this will be far from your usual listen.

This 15-minute offering opens with a blistering Deathcore sound; however, before long, you are welcomed to the Rap offering of the band. Now, being honest, even being aware that this would be happening, I didn’t quite appreciate the impact on the overall track it would have and also the work that the band must have done to ensure that the track sounds like a guest appearance.

The breakdowns and brutal vocals remind you exactly what is going on, and this is as good as you will hear.

As the EP progresses, the Rap comes to the fore more, on ‘Blood Money’ the track is opened by spitting lyrics, before things move back to the Deathcore. The music remains heavy no matter which vocalist has the mic – the drums remain at breakneck speed with the trigger being pulled on blast beats at times. The guitar chugs and riffs provide the sound of hostility to go perfectly with the destructive drum and the extreme vocals.

If this was a purely Deathcore EP it would be easy to say that this is up there with one of the best things I have heard in the genre however with this heavy Rap inclusion it does take a little getting used to, however when you just goo with it you realise this slaps hard no matter which vocal is happening.

You will end up throwing down and breaking anything in arm’s reach throughout the 15 minutes, and it feels so good to let it go.

Does the combination work? Yes, it does, and very well indeed. There have been many crossover groups, but this feels more, it feels more than a gimmick or for access to a wider audience. The Deathcore would put most people off, and this is by no means any kind of compromise – I’m not sure that Autumn Lies Buried would know how to compromise.

Mob Mentality goes as hard as you will hear and test you in ways you didn’t know possible, but it is so good, I just want more!

Mob Mentality will be released on June 6th 2025, via Exitus Stratagem Records.
