Today, Tuesday 27th October, Cambridge 5 piece Lonely The Brave have released their brilliant, brand new single, ‘So Nearly’. Produced by Mark Roberts (Black Peaks, Jamie Lenman, Delta Sleep), and released on the bands new label Easy Life, this is the first new music from the band featuring their original vocalist Dave Jakes in over a decade. The absolute unflinching melodic nature, and rhythmical driving force of the track, is underpinned by those stunning, unmistakable vocals from Jakes. ‘So Nearly’ is a piece of music LONG in the making, and gives fans a very real indication of where the band are at right now, and what is still to come.

Lonely The Brave – “We are all absolutely delighted to be releasing ‘So Nearly’. This is the first song we wrote after all of us got back in a room together again with Dave (Jakes), and decided to just see what happens. To us, ‘So Nearly’ just SOUNDS and FEELS like a Lonely The Brave song should, and we couldn’t be happier with it.”

Along with the new single, the band have also announced a short 2027 UK headline run through May. All of the dates are below, tickets pre sale launches on Wednesday the 28th October via the bands mailing list, and general sale on Friday 30th October. Support on all dates comes from Other Half.

From the band on their live dates next year – “Our first headline tour with our full original lineup in ten years….honestly just writing that phrase feels surreal. Ten years. Proud to be here, honoured to be coming to some of our favourite places and cannot wait to see you all there. Your support is everything, thank you.”

—————

After leaving the band almost a decade ago, founding vocalist Dave Jakes has rejoined the much loved Cambridge quintet, Lonely The Brave. The vocalist and songwriter was behind the band’s hugely acclaimed debut and sophomore albums, ‘The Day’s War’ (2015) and ‘Things Will Matter’ (2016), which combined have over 85 million streams on Spotify alone.

One of the most distinct and powerful voices in UK rock music, Jakes and the band had originally announced their parting of ways due to health reasons in early 2018. In the last few months, the band (who went on to release a further two albums with another vocalist, Jack Bennett) reached out to Jakes and started to rebuild their friendships and relationships that had understandably dissipated slightly over time. That slowly moved into discussions around having some fun in a practice room and running through some old Lonely The Brave material. Old chemistry quickly took shape, smiles and enjoyment took over from nerves, and five friends became a band again.

What quickly became apparent to all, though, was there was unfinished business with this lineup. The desire to not just rehearse but also write new music took over, as well as a sense to take this all the more seriously than perhaps they had originally envisaged. The first stage in this return plan was always about playing live again, as the original five-piece, with that voice…
