| Emerging from the remote plains of the UK’s South West, Prodigal amalgamates a variety of genres to create a sound that feels otherworldly yet viciously barbed, as if opening a portal to a vast yet inhospitable landscape. Announcing their signing to Deep Love Recordings (Rev3rent, Fifi, Empty Shell Casing), In Bloom and Nu Metal Worldwide today, Prodigal open the door on that world with a brand new single, aptly titled ‘The Door’. A sonically amorphous cut of textured, distorted alternative music, ‘The Door’ calls to mind the twisted sounds of the late 90s and early 00s, where spiritual soulfulness collided with merciless devastation at will. Rather than using these disparate elements to emphasis juxtaposition, ‘The Door’ blends them expertly; finding beauty within the extreme and vice versa, complete with elasticated, ominously measured guitar riffs and a percussive line that really anchors the track while holding space. A testament to the beguiling contradiction within their work, ‘The Door’ is the perfect introduction to the alluring yet explosive sound of Prodigal. Fresh from a much talked about slot at this year’s 2000Trees festival, Prodigal defy definition or categorisation, and with a swell of new music on the horizon, 2026 will be the year that one of the UK alternative music’s biggest hidden secrets finally let the rest of the world in. |
