Gudewife – UK Instrumental Math/Post-Rock Duo Premiere New Video For “When Silence Forgets Itself”

UK instrumental math/post-rock duo Gudewife have just shared a brand new video for “When Silence Forgets Itself”, the latest single taken from their forthcoming EP Atoms, Don’t Die, due out on July 24 via Ripcord Records.

The video premiered today via Everything Is Noise, who praised the track’s emotional power and overwhelming atmosphere: “This song feels as if the noise of life cannot be quelled, and the loss of peace and quiet across the constant hiss of reality becomes suffocating. What happens when you can’t find the escape?”

Following the release of the powerful lead single “Tahrir التحرير” featuring acclaimed poet Hala Alyan, “When Silence Forgets Itself” reveals another dimension of Gudewife’s ever-expanding sonic palette. Moving effortlessly between math rock precision, post-rock grandeur, ambient textures, experimental sound design, psych, and progressive rock, the track unfolds as a captivating journey through tension, release, and reflection.

If you missed the video for lead lead single “Tahrir التحرير”, watch it here.

Gudewife are an instrumental math/post-rock duo from the North West of the UK, blending elements of math rock, post-rock, ambient, experimental, jazz, IDM, psych, and prog into a dynamic and exploratory sound. Driven by the angular, melodic guitar work of Luke Burrows and the intricate, restless rhythms of Tom Holmes, their music is further shaped by hazy synth textures and evocative found sounds.

Through shifting time signatures and evolving tempos, the duo create richly textured compositions that move between introspective calm and bursts of chaotic energy, constantly expanding their sonic palette.

Having shared stages with acts such as Alpha Male Tea Party, Pleiades, and Vordermann, Gudewife continue to build momentum within the UK underground.

Their new EP, Atoms, Don’t Die, is a meditation on loss in all its forms. Inspired by the idea that matter never truly disappears, only disperses, the record explores themes of death, grief, the passing of youth, and the erosion of belief.

Across five tracks, the band guide the listener through a wide emotional and sonic spectrum, from ambient introspection to tightly wound, high-energy passages.

Produced by Tom Peters at Trapdoor Studios and mastered by Stephen Kerrison, Atoms, Don’t Die will be released on July 24 via Ripcord Records. Pre-orders are now available at this location.
