Gudewife – UK Instrumental Math/Post-Rock Duo Announce New EP “Atoms, Don’t Die” & Premiere “Tahrir التحرير”

UK instrumental math/post-rock duo Gudewife have announced their new EP Atoms, Don’t Die, set to be released on July 24 via Ripcord Records, and today share the video for lead single “Tahrir التحرير” featuring poet Hala Alyan.

The video is now streaming via Heavy Blog Is Heavy, who commented: “After the initial salvo launched by Gudewife’s signature shifting wall-of-sound, Hala’s words take center stage. The instrumentals are left quietly seething under her matter-of-fact delivery that’s tinged with steely fury. The restraint of both the music and the poetry speak volumes greater than any riff, leaving space for cruelty and injustice to shine.”

Speaking about the track and its accompanying video, produced by Nat Scott, the band comment: “‘Tahrir التحرير’ means liberation, release and emancipation. The song is Gudewife’s response to the genocide in Gaza and the occupation of the Palestinian people. We knew our instruments wouldn’t be enough to convey the weight of pain, and the struggle for liberation, thus Hala Alyan’s devastatingly beautiful poetry conveys the myriad, interwoven themes of struggle, resistance, despair, diaspora and hope for a free Palestine.”

Gudewife are an instrumental math/post-rock duo from the North West of the UK, blending elements of math rock, post-rock, ambient, experimental, jazz, IDM, psych, and prog into a dynamic and exploratory sound. Driven by the angular, melodic guitar work of Luke Burrows and the intricate, restless rhythms of Tom Holmes, their music is further shaped by hazy synth textures and evocative found sounds.

Through shifting time signatures and evolving tempos, the duo create richly textured compositions that move between introspective calm and bursts of chaotic energy, constantly expanding their sonic palette.

Having shared stages with acts such as Alpha Male Tea Party, Pleiades, and Vordermann, Gudewife continue to build momentum within the UK underground.

Their new EP, Atoms, Don’t Die, is a meditation on loss in all its forms. Inspired by the idea that matter never truly disappears, only disperses, the record explores themes of death, grief, the passing of youth, and the erosion of belief.

Across five tracks, the band guide the listener through a wide emotional and sonic spectrum, from ambient introspection to tightly wound, high-energy passages.

Produced by Tom Peters at Trapdoor Studios and mastered by Stephen Kerrison, Atoms, Don’t Die will be released on July 24 via Ripcord Records.
