Absnt Mind Release New Single ‘Allestree Lane | Written with Jamie Squire from The 1975

ABSNT MIND  REDEFINING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A BOYBAND IN 2025  MAKING WAVES AND SMASHING THROUGH TRADITIONAL BOYBAND CULTURE

British pop boyband Absnt Mind release their new single Allestree Lane. An emotional, thought-provoking song written by the boys with JamieSquire, guitarist with The 1975. The track is all about the pain and emotion of having to move out of your family home when family circumstances change, something that Freddie went through at the age of 17, and something that will resonate with many families everywhere.

Freddie said ‘This was an emotional trip down memory lane for me. When family circumstances change, you try to be strong for everyone, you put on a brave face and keep going. Sitting down with Jamie and the boys writing this song was so raw. I never realised quite how much the whole moving home thing had affected me and writing this song, reliving that time and the memories within those four walls at Allestree Lane became an emotional process I wasn’t expecting.’

Absnt Mind have been writing with Jamie Squire both in London and also at the 1975 Studio in Newcastle. Writing with a 1975 band member blew the boys minds, they have been fans of the band for a long time, especially Alex, Conor and Oscar. Jamie Squire said, ‘Writing with these boys was a real eye opener. I had thought I would have to do the writing and they would just tell me what they liked, but from that first day when they walked into the studio, they knew they had an idea they wanted to explore and their creativity and talent, writing ability and sense of purpose just took over. They are very gifted song-writers.’

Indeed, coming together through a shared love of songwriting, the five members – Alex, Ashton, Conor, Freddie and Oscar – co-write every song and represent the complex and introspective viewpoints of their generation Z.

After a huge summer of sold out headline tour dates and key support slots from the likes of Sugababes and Olly Murs, Absnt Mind closed 2025with an intimate London headline show. It’s been a massive few months for the band with idol Sabrina Carpenter reposting their ‘Manchild’ videoon TikTok, pop high priestess Jade liking their Natural At Disaster’ cover, and Sienna Spiro also adoring their version of ‘Die On This Hill’ alongwith praise from Zach Templar. The boys are now in the studio writing with pop royalty such as Ed Drewett and Mike Needle. Not many new bands can sell 10,000 tickets in just under a year, but Absnt Mind have captured the hearts of their generation through honest storytelling. Thefive boys came up with their name having felt so much pressure, from exams to social media presence, and their drive is to encourage theirgrowing fanbase to free your mind from pressure and live in the moment. Have an Absnt Mind.

Since moving into their house together, Absnt Mind’s bond has become rock-solid. “We’ve had a lot of time to develop the band’s sound and image organically while working on our friendship,” Oscar says. They’ve also honed their stage craft and live vocals by performing at schools up and down the country. School shows have also allowed Absnt Mind to share advice and connect with young people who are still figuring outtheir paths in life. “We always do a Q&A session after we perform. I think that lets people see that we’re just normal lads who happen to bemaking our way in the music world. It demystifies the whole thing,” Alex says. “And we talk a lot about mental health, toxic masculinity and bullying which are really important issues for us as a band,” Oscar adds. “I think it’s helpful for kids to hear us speaking openly about that stuffbecause we’re only a couple of years older than them. I wish I’d been able to have those conversations when I was at school.”

Absnt Mind have already gained support from Spotify, Apple, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, RTE, Official Charts, MTV, Clash, Daily Star, NME, Hotpress for their previous releases, heartfelt pop anthem “Special”, fun summer vibe “Wardrobe’, confident Simpatico” and the Benny &The Jets influenced “Stitch”, which have all brought new worldwide fans to the Absnt Mind table. Early love from Irish broadcaster RTE saw the boys deliver an outstanding Live Lounge performance of ‘Favourite’ by Fontaines D.C. Not what you expect from a boyband but Absnt Mind arere-writing what it means to be a one in 2025.

Each member comes from a different part of the UK and brings his own musical perspective. Londoner Ashton is a vocal harmony maestro who’s become known as the “smart one” of the band. Chester lad Alex takes inspiration from his favourite indie bands: Oasis, Catfish and theBottlemen and The 1975. Conor is a singer and songwriter known on the Northern Irish music scene and points out proudly that Absnt Mind’s recent Belfast date “sold out in less than an hour”. Youngest member Freddie, a TikTok aficionado from Derby, can reel off the lyrics to any current chart hit. And

Skipton-born Oscar adds serious flavour with his sharp, sardonic wit and emotive performance style. The chemistry is real: spending time withAbsnt Mind at their shared house in North London is like watching your favourite pop-band star in their own home-made reality TV show.

Growing their YouTube views to almost 1.5 million in six months, the band has a respectful catalogue of acoustic covers from artists they love, including Billie Eilish, Noah Kahan, Chappell Roan, Sienna Spiro, Sam Fender & Olivia Dean through to Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams andRaye. As well as writing their own tunes, the boys have been working with some of the biggest songwriters in the UK and across the globe, including Kamille, Wayne Hector, Jon Ryan, Jamie Scott, Mike Needle, Corey Sanders, Steve Mac and Anya Jones and producers includingMark Ralph, Billented, Mojam, Matt Rad, Mark Schick, Goldfingers, Danish powerhouse duo PHD and Swedish duo Jack ‘n Coke.

LYRICS TO ALLESTREE LANE V1:
You blew out my candles with me From my 1st to 17th
You know everything
Even what I’m thinking in my sleep

You’re my rock you’re my foundation You know how to keep me warm
You taught me how to live
You taught me how to make a house a home

Pre:
I never thought my life would change with a for sale sign

Chorus:
They can paint the walls in my bedroom Cover up my favourite shade of gray
Oh I guess I’ll have to live with this the hard way I’ll move out
But I can’t move on from Allestree Lane

V2:
It ain’t only bricks and mortar
My heart’s inside those window frames
Oh I planned to leave it to my future sons and daughters But plans have a tendency to change

Chorus:
They can paint the walls in my bedroom Cover up my favourite shade of gray
Oh I guess I’ll have to live with this the hard way I’ll move out
But I can’t move on from Allestree Lane

V3:
If I find time I like to wander
I’ll shortcut down to Allestree Lane
I’ll see them with their feet up on my sofa They might as well just takethe family name

Chorus:
Oh I promised to my mother when I’m older I’ll buy the memories back for her some day Til then I’ll have to live with this the hard way

It’s my house it’s my home
Oh I moved out, but I won’t move on from Allestree Lane
