Stabbing // Eon of Obscenity // Album Review

8

“Everything’s bigger in Texas” – a phrase that is also relevant when it comes to the Death Metal and Brutal Death Metal scene, and Stabbing are at the forefront of it all.

There are quite a few great bands that are coming out of the Texas region, and the four-piece from Houston has brought their ‘A game’ for the debut on Century Media and have built on the initial plans from their inception in 202,1 which was to emulate bands from the 90’s and early 2000’s like Disgorge and Deeds of Flesh.

Having been unhappy with her vocals on the 2022 release, Extirpated Mortal Process, Bridget Lynch set out to improve and hopes that what she has produced on this album will encourage young girls to become more involved in the scene.

This is where I admit that it’s been a while since I’ve listened to anything from the Brutal Death Metal arena; however, when I saw that Stabbing were releasing a new album, now seemed the right time to delve back in.

The 11-track album doesn’t warm you up slowly, be prepared from the off – it’s like opening a door to be met by a sledgehammer as you walk through it. The utter brutality knocks you out of your shoes, and the quality of all aspects is clear from the get-go.

The bass slaps hard, the drums are as intense and hard as they come, the guitar slices and chops whilst the vocal is perfectly guttural – the overall result of which is something that is going to not only push for an early contender as Brutal Album of the Year, but something that also solidifies Stabbing as leading the way in the genre and inspiring new bands.

The way that the album grabs you and shakes you repeatedly and non-stop is the kind of thing that would risk baby shaking syndrome if any newborn babies are within earshot when this is being played.

Eon of Obscenity is everything and more that I had hoped for when I asked to cover this album, and has reignited that Brutal Death need that I had before – the only issue is that there are not many bands up to this level, so it may be this album and a select few that are on repeat for some time now!

Eon of Obscenity will be released on Friday, 30th January 2026, via Century Media.
