Weymouth punk outfit Weatherstate have returned with a sharp, electrifying burst of riff-driven energy, dropping their new single ‘fear’ today—perfectly timed for spooky season.
Vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins explains the track’s intense edge: “fear reflects the claustrophobia of your own mind—the fight-or-flight tension we all feel in an uncertain world. The heavier, faster nature of the song is our response to that feeling, like a needle threatening to pop a balloon. But there’s an adrenaline rush in there too, something exciting and positive.”
The single is accompanied by a music video shot in a shaky-cam style, inspired by handheld horror classics such as ‘The Blair Witch Project’, amplifying the track’s edgy energy.
Last year, Weatherstate released their first new original music since 2022’s ‘Never Better’ album with the track ‘Hellbent’. Vocalist and guitarist Harry Hoskins said of that one: “Hellbent is a reflection on everything we have been through as a band – feeling jaded from the ups and downs, and dealing with the noise from people that might not have your best interests at heart. As you get older you sometimes question why you are even doing this in the first place, and ultimately realise none of the bullshit matters. So I guess this song is a reminder to only put energy into things that actually add value to your life, and to do things the way you want.”
The track formed part of their 10-year anniversary celebrations which were received with glee by the loyal fanbase they’ve earned , all the while honing a sound that blends raw punk energy with thoughtful, relatable lyricism.
With ‘fear’, Weatherstate continue to channel their signature punk rock sensibility, delivering short, sharp shocks of riff-driven intensity that resonate with the anxieties—and thrills—of everyday life.
