The first sign of spring emerges and suddenly it’s all systems go for Wigan’s indie-pop upstarts The Lilacs. The band today share their new single ‘You’re Not That Daft’ as they build towards the March 21st release of their debut EP ‘The 395 (To Forever)’ via Scruff of the Neck. They will celebrate its release with an in-store tour, before heading out on their biggest UK tour to date, which includes a sold-out Sheffield show at The Leadmill. And that’s not all – a big 2025 for The Lilacs will continue all summer with a hectic festival schedule.
‘You’re Not That Daft’ is exactly what you want from The Lilacs: bright, insistent melodies, rambunctious rhythms, and a hook that embeds itself within your mind after just a single play. Ollie Anglesea’s booming voice shares a postcard picture of youthful big nights out, albeit with a melancholic undercurrent as the person he shared those moments with has changed. His lyrics convey the riotous misadventures of such nights, from the tall tales of someone claiming his second cousin is Johnny Marr to the famous ten drinks for £10 offer from Wigan’s much missed Indiependence club. If you’ve ever attended an indie club, ‘You’re Not That Daft’ will instantly invite old memories to come flooding out.
Ollie says, “This is definitely one of the more ‘fun’ tracks on the record, and was the quickest song that came together in the studio. Similar to ‘Calling it a Night’ and ‘One More for the Road’, this song explores the times of our misspent youth and university days — late-night drinking, reckless adventures, and the blurry yet unforgettable moments that shaped us, even as we stumbled our way through it all.”
‘You’re Not That Daft’ joins ‘Where’ve You Been Hiding’ and ‘Calling It A Night’ in previewing the five track EP ‘The 395 (To Forever)’. Produced by Joe Cross (Courteneers, Slow Readers Club), the EP draws on the band’s tales of growing up in the north – but their growing powers suggest those stories are a stepping stone for a bigger future.
The EP is available to pre-order HERE, with physical formats including two vinyl variants and a CD.
The Lilacs have already seen strong demand for both their headline and in-store tours – limited tickets for some shows remain available HERE. Having previously supported Lottery Winners, The Lathums and The View, their festival schedule already includes Camp Bestival, Camper Calling, Godney Gathering, Kendal Calling, Sound Factory, This Feeling By The Sea and Y NOT. Wherever you’re heading, expect The Lilacs to be there. Their headline dates are:
