New York, NY — April 23, 2025 — Rapidly rising rockers and 2024 Spotify RADAR stars Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers return today with their first single of the year—and their first release since winning the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist ARIA Award—the raucous and celebratory “BALCONY.” Produced by 3x GRAMMY Award winner Catherine Marks (boygenius, Wolf Alice, Foals), “BALCONY” is out now via Mom + Pop Music (World) and Community Music (AUS/NZ) — [stream HERE/watch HERE]. “BALCONY IS FOR WHEN YOU’RE FEELING CHEEKY AND WANT TO KISS SOMEONE ON THE FACE AND GET KICKED OUT OF A BAR!!! CHAOS!!!!!” – Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers “BALCONY” marks a bold new chapter for the band, expanding their signature sound with widescreen indie-rock flair. It’s the first track to emerge from a five-week recording stint at The Grove Studios in so-called NSW with London-based producer Marks, who the band calls “a frickin dream. We have learnt heaps from her and have been such huge fans for so long! She’s stupidly hardworking and makes us all feel very motivated and inspired, which is hard to do when you’re locked in an isolated studio for 5 straight weeks. Hallelujah and god bless miss Marks. The single also features engineering from 3x GRAMMY winner Oli Jacobs (Kendrick Lamar, beabadoobee, Taylor Swift) and mastering by Ruairi O’Flaherty (Sabrina Carpenter, Lana Del Rey, Bleachers).
In just two weeks, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers will return to the US to join Pearl Jam as the sole support on six arena dates across Nashville, Raleigh, and Pittsburgh, as part of the Dark Matter Tour. They’ll also play three North American headline shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and Toronto. This run follows their 2024 stadium tour with Pearl Jam in so-called Australia, where Eddie Vedder surprised the band onstage to congratulate them on their ARIA win and said, “For all the people who have yet to see them perform and this is your first time, we are very honoured that you will say, ‘I saw them on the same stage as Pearl Jam.’” Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers — Anna Ryan (they/she, vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (she/her, guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (she/her, bass), and Neve van Boxsel (she/her, drums) — first broke out with their 2022 EP Pretty Good For A Girl Band, earning praise from The Guardian, triple j, Teen Vogue, and others, with lead single “Girl Sports” landing at #55 in the triple j Hottest 100. Their 2023 debut album I Love You debuted at #6 on the ARIA Albums Chart and included the Hottest 100-charting single “I Used To Be Fun” (#52). That same year, they opened for Foo Fighters and were named one of Spotify’s New Noise Artists To Watch for 2024. The accolades have continued, including nominations for Australian Album of the Year (J Awards), Song of the Year (“I Used To Be Fun”) and Emerging Songwriter of the Year (APRA Awards), Best New Artist and Best Single (Rolling Stone Awards), and wins for Best Independent Rock Album or EP (AIR Awards) and Artist of the Year (Music ACT Awards). Their 2024 deluxe album I Love You Too features standout collaborations with Softcult on “Dull” and The Linda Lindas on “Please Me.”
Now based across Ngunnawal/Canberra and Naarm/Melbourne, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have evolved into one of Australia’s most urgent and exciting voices. Advocates for Green Music’s No Music on a Dead Planet, contributors to a Parliamentary inquiry into live music, and outspoken supporters of AAM’s Michael’s Rule, the band continues to channel their passion for music and social change into everything they do.
