Danish punks Pleaser have released another preview of their forthcoming album ‘Begging Guitars’. New single ‘Ride’, out today, is one hell of a journey, as its title suggests. The song combines the dynamics of adrenalized jaw-punching sections with heartfelt playful melodies. It’s mired in darkness and chaos, yet has a drive of soulfulness and a longing for tranquility.
The band say: “‘Ride’ takes you on board the full-speed-ahead vehicle of mindless addiction to life’s extremes, with fierce emotions on full display. The song displays dissociation and escape from the ordinary on a journey of letting one’s true desires be known. It is a no-control motor, heading towards collision – but with dreams of finding and withholding direction.”
‘Begging Guitars’ will be released 23rd May via Copenhagen indie Part Time Records. The announcement of the album was accompanied by the release of its title track, ‘Begging Guitars’. Enraged and intense verses tangle with velvety-sung passages to give a feeling of liberation. “The song presents the subjects of letting go and not expecting or indulging in perfection from oneself or others,” say the band.
Pleaser’s musicality, ethics and community are undeniably punk, but their expression is vast and more personal than it is bound by the confines of any one genre. The band projects the heart-on-sleeve earnestness of early emo, the in-your-face vivaciousness of punk rock and a metal-tinged darkness, as well as infusing both classic rock and modern experimental elements into their own unique aural aesthetic. Songs are both catchy and impenetrable at the same time, with the band appreciating a pop hook just as much as a labyrinthine song structure. Pleaser chews it all up and infuses it with their own noisy but charming melodic rattle.
Double lead vocalists and guitarists Annie Nyvold and Suo Fei, drummer Oliver Nehammer and bassist Olle Bergholzall enjoy omnivorous taste in music, and a pure love for creative expression.
Pleaser’s 2023 debut was acclaimed internationally by media such as Cvltnation, Bandcamp and Maximum RocknRoll. It also received high-starred reviews from Danish publications such as Devilution, Undertoner, and Selvtægt and was highlighted among the best Danish releases of the year in national newspaper Ekstra Bladet. Aligned with the release of their debut album, Pleaser played a wide range of concerts in Denmark, from underground punk shows to well established festivals such as Roskilde Festival, K-Town Hardcore Fest and Metal Magic. This sparked a new wave of attention and airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music, and led them to stages in Scandinavia and Germany.
With their new album more cohesive than ever before, Pleaser persists in experimenting with their catchy, yet aggressive and dynamic sound, heightening listeners’ emotions in the process. The forthcoming full-length presents a series of adventurous new punk songs, fusing their creativity with a new force of excitement and curiosity. This new universe revolves around the journey of self-exploration, liberation from inner darkness, and transcending that darkness to form new pathways.
