Pitter Patter show their emo-inspired rock tendencies on new collection, Kraken at The Seams
Alternative rock crew Pitter Patter have dropped their new, six-track EP, Kraken at The Seams.
With a dexterity that will appeal across the rock landscape – from fans of Title Fight to Mom Jeans, Modest Mouse to Taking Back Sunday – the Pittsburgh outfit kick off 2025 with a compelling new collection.
The band explores a dexterous array of influences from across the width and breadth of modern rock. What remains consistent is the East Coast quartet’s abundant melody and gilt-edged instrumentation, taking the shackles off to showcase blistering guitars and an intuitive songwriting style.
What deepens Pitter Patter’s moreish allure is their knack for frank and relatable storytelling. The subject matter is often serious, but the band’s honest and quick-witted lyricism brings an approachability to themes of mental health, loss and heartbreak.
Splaying intricate indie rock intonations with glistening emo pop, Pittsburgh quartet Pitter Patter broke onto the scene with 2022 single “treehouse”. The track would go on to take it’s place on the band’s debut album Naturally Selected, the following fall with the rookie collection displaying a sharp and hook-laden brand of modern alternative.
The record nodded to likes of Young Culture, Between You & Me and Old Neon, with Pitter Patter shading their poignant and – at times – dark lyricism with a sunny pop sensibility and infectious instrumental interplay.
Late 2024 saw began the build towards Kraken at The Seams. Intricate indie rock effort “Oh? Possum!” would kick off the cycle, honing twinkly guitars and frank lyricism, a precursor of what was to come.
Follow up “Bandages”, saw Pitter Patter explore the heavier end of their lexicon. Indeed, the dexterity in their sonic range continues throughout the rest of the collection, with Pitter Patter channelling the breadth of their influences on Kraken at The Seams.
From the acoustic introspection of “Push”, to the jangly Midwest emo tones of “Laundry” and the power pop choruses of “The Dive”, Pitter Patter shade their thought-provoking tales with a broad stroke but carefully crafted sonic output. The constant is their compelling brand of storytelling. One that will steer the listener through the full range of emotions over six heartfelt tracks.
