¡Ponce! spar math rock, anime-influence and Midwest emo on new collection!

East Coast indie rock crew ¡Ponce! have dropped their new EP, ¡Ponce!…does Anime.

The four-track showcases the Connecticut crew’s vibrant, jarring style, as the songs come to life with complex time signatures and sparkling melodies.

Taking an array of influences from Modest Mouse to Modern Baseball, TTNG to Giraffes? Giraffes!, ¡Ponce! bring a fresh and engaging take on Midwest emo imbued math-rock with the new set of songs.

You don’t have to look far beyond the band moniker (taken from 00s cult cartoon Clone High) and the title of debut EP – ¡Ponce! are…(The Wizards of Time & Infinity) – to comprehend the Connecticut outfit’s fantastic thematic influences and lyrical references. Tales of mystery, magic and mayhem are grounded in the band’s defined, technically proficient brand of modern rock.

Come along to a ¡Ponce! show and be greeted by costumes and convivial fan interaction, a removal – perhaps – from the usual straight-faced, banter-lite expectation that fans might expect from a band of this genre(s).

Whilst the rookie collection gave fans a first look at the trio’s intricate sonic stylings, new EP, ¡Ponce!…does Anime doubles down on the ¡Ponce! soundscape.

From the delightfully jagged “Attack on Titan”, to the pop-laced “Heart of The Cards” to math-rock riot “Dragon of Chaos”, the new collection is riveting in it’s unpredictability. But the ostensibly frenetic instrumentation is measured and deftly crafted to contrast the softer hooks and Midwest emo shaded melodic injections.

¡Ponce!…does Anime is out now.

¡Ponce! is:
Brandon Lepore – Bass
Chase Greer – Drums
Joseph Omeluk – Vocals/Guitar
