Oscar Lang shares new single ‘On God’

‘On God’ is the latest track from Oscar Lang, taken from the upcoming new long-player ‘Look Now’, due for release on 21 July on Dirty Hit. The track is one of the most personal Oscar has ever written, as he speaks about the experience of losing his mother at a young age.
“My mum committed suicide when I was seven years old and for years, I really didn’t think about it too much. I think as a seven-year-old, you don’t process much really. Within a couple of hours of being told that my mum had died, my dad was going ‘you can do anything you want, whatever you boys want to do, you can do’, so I said I wanted to go play mini golf. Within four or five hours after being told my mum had died, I was smashing holes-in-one on a mini golf course and having fun, you don’t really process it as a seven-year-old. But things like that, you don’t realise the severity of it and what it means to you and I didn’t for ages and just got on with life. When I went through this break-up, as much as my dad was there to help me, and to comfort me and be there for me, all I really wanted was a hug from my mum. I wanted my mum to come in and go ‘can I make you a cup of tea?’, just be there, it’s where I really felt I missed this motherly presence in my life. In the last year, it really has dawned on me how I really miss this side of my life that I wish I could have had, having a mum around.”
The first single from the album ‘A Song About Me’ was soon followed by ‘One Foot First’ which was backed with a beautiful live performance video which was filmed at St John the Baptist Church in London and directed by Oliver James Robbins. Both tracks received support from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, DIY, Clash and The New Cue, whilst Jack Saunders has been playing the track on his BBC Radio 1 show. The dream-like ‘Everything Unspoken’ arrived soon after which saw Oscar leaning into psych-pop territory.
‘On God’ is the last single before the release of new album ‘Look Now’ on 21st July on Dirty Hit. It follows past collaborations with label mates Beabadoobee and Wallice as more recently with Molly Payton.
