“Roommates” is a sleek single that showcases smooth vocals from lead vocalist, Brian Butcher. The chorus comes in with a biting kick bringing the whole track’s atmosphere up. The song’s visual puts the band in a camera-angled performative setting before the tape rewinds into their second newly released track, “Overtime.” This single comes in with a fresh new energy, with bold vocals and groovy alternative-melodies. The visual takes a nod at previously released music videos such as “Loud” and “Hell,” while maintaining a new creative edge. The Home Team have delivered an innovative angle in releasing these two new songs that effortlessly fit together like puzzle pieces.

“Roommates and Overtime are two sides of the same coin. I’m not super into astrology, but I do admit that I identify pretty heavily with the descriptions of my sign of Gemini in that I flip flop between two sides of myself. These songs are a conversation between those two sides. Roommates is from the perspective of a driven, organized and motivated side of me, and Overtime is the respective creative and passionate side. Both have their weaknesses and their strengths, and they can’t exist without the other, but they definitely get into shouting matches sometimes. Safe to say these songs mean a lot to me.” – Brian Butcher, lead vocalist.

About The Home Team: Hailing from Seattle, Washington The Home Team strives to create an atmosphere of wonderment and originality within their genre of Heavy-pop. “When an album really spoke to me, there was a mystique and a lot of wonder about it that really captured me.” Says lead vocalist Brian Butcher, “There was nothing that could replace it. When I hear someone has listened to our album 100 times, that’s what makes it feel greater than the four of us, that’s what I want The Home Team to be for our listeners.”

Formed in 2013 by drummer Daniel Matson and guitarist John Baran off the heels of touring in their respective metal bands, they showed no signs of slowing down as they created a new line-up. “John [Baran] and I were both the guys in our metal bands that wanted to do music for a living.” Says Matson on the conception of The Home Team. “Eventually we found Brian [Butcher] in 2015, who auditioned as a genuine fan as he was the first person to buy our first EP off Bandcamp and Ryne [Olson] we knew from his previous band For The Likes Of You. He filled in for a 3-day run, then the first real thing we did was in 2019 when we opened four dates for Don Broco, he permanently joined from there.”

The Home Team emerges from more traditional pop-punk and metal influences; they have introduced stylings of R&B, pop and funk into their music in an effort to be true to their tastes while crafting their heavy pop sound. The band has gone to great lengths to be creatively genuine with their audience, which has rewarded them many times over with an extremely dedicated and passionate fan base. Having shared stages with bands such as Don Broco, Senses Fail, and Real Friends and taken their captivating show to the UK in December of 2023 supporting The Used they have shown exponential growth. However, the band continues to stay true to their DIY roots when reflecting on touring and much more. “We really focused on DIY touring when we first got started. We booked our own tours for years, when the industry wasn’t interested we said fuck it, we’ll do it ourselves and we’ll keep going until people are interested.” Says Matson about where they originated from. “We may be new to the attention we’re getting, but we’re not new to being a band.”

Using unique production the band brings their electrifying performance to life and having released immersive albums such as Better Off and Slow Bloom, this enigmatic band will continue to grow and evolve their music for the purpose of creating something unlike anything that has come before. While creating such memorable records, there were obstacles that the band were facing personally, the pandemic put strain on the band leaving Butcher unemployed, “That really affected the way I wrote music, because I put a lot of thought into it, particularly with Slow Bloom. Having the capacity to finally put everything I had into music was huge.” Says Butcher about what has personally happened in his own life that influenced his creative writing process.

One important element to the band is their ability to create memorable music videos that draw fans and new listeners in. “John [Baran] would come up with the idea and I would come up with the execution. We always wanted there to be a point, we never wanted it to be a visual cool performance video. That kinda just checks a box for a release, we always want it to be more than just us performing.”

The Home Team has put the importance of who they are and what they want to put out into the world above how others are trying to perceive them. Recently signed to Thriller Records and have released two new singles, “Loud” and “Brag,” The band expands on their experience working with the Thriller team. “Anyone that we talked to who had worked with Bob [Becker], said he was great and had great experiences with him. He genuinely cares about the music.” Says Matson about signing to Thriller Records. “We’re in the music business, so business is a major part of it but he genuinely cares about the art and keeping the artist happy. It was pretty apparent the belief that Thriller had in us.” The Home Team will continue to set fire to 2024 preparing new music, hear, “Hell,” “Brag” and “Loud” now via Thriller Records.
