Steadily building a reputation as the UK’s answer to the great pop/country crossover stars from the USMaya Lane got 2024 off to a bang with her single ‘Bump Into Me’. Building to a growing list of tastemaker approval, the song saw Maya land her first Radio 1 airplay with multiple Future Pop spins from Mollie King, while she has also just been longlisted from thousands of entrants for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition. Now Maya builds upon those landmark moments by sharing the follow-up single ‘Heart For A Heart’. Listen HERE.

‘Heart For A Heart’ feels like the missing link between the past and the present; a place where the pop-tinged vulnerability of Kacey Musgraves feels as important an influence as the soulful melancholy of classic Fleetwood Mac.  Her vocals radiate both the expressiveness of youth and the elegance of an old-soul as her lyrics imagine targeting a love interest who has scorned her.

Maya says, “Some say revenge is an eye-for-an-eye, but sometimes it feels a little more like a ‘Heart For A Heart’! This is a song that’s been tucked away in my back pocket for a couple of years now and one I’m truly so excited to share. The idea came to me while watching a film, in which the main character sets out to seek revenge on those who’d wronged her. I wrote the song in a couple of hours and it felt so refreshing to be able to dive into a whole other world, create this dramatic, detailed story and run with it. While the storyline of the song is fictional, the message resonates so deeply with emotions that  can arise after feeling betrayed, whether that be in a relationship or a friendship.”

Maya wrote the song with andysocialclub (Caity Baser, Henry Moodie) and Carys Selvey, with production from Rich Cooper (Rina Sawayama, Billie Marten) and andysocialclub.

After working with an array of the UK’s leading collaborators, Maya is currently continuing to craft a catalogue of essential new songs alongside Wayne Hector (Tate McRaeBirdy), Rob Milton (Holly HumberstoneThe 1975), and Hayley Gene Penner (The ChicksLennon Stella). She is also back on the road soon, with a super intimate living room tour alongside fellow artist and friend Edie Bens happening in April, while she is also confirmed to play an all-female showcase for Ferocious Talent at The Half MoonPutney on April 23rd. Her previous tour saw her win over numerous new fans as she played theatres across the UK as special guest to Far From Saints, who feature Kelly Jones of Stereophonics.

The 20-year-old artist uses music inspired by the likes of Adam MelchorHAIMNoah Kahan and Joni Mitchell as the vehicle for her storytelling songs – sometimes based on personal experiences, sometimes fuelled by fiction, but always relevant and relatable to a late teen / young adult audience. While she has only released a handful of tracks to date – the singles ‘Bump Into Me’‘24F’ and ‘Just A Girl’ plus her 2022 debut EP ‘Childish Games’ – they consistently reveal Maya to be a singer-songwriter destined for a much bigger future.

Maya first vowed to be a musician at London’s O2 arena when she attended a show on Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ tour. For many youngsters maybe that dream would drift away, but Maya worked tirelessly to make it happen, spending her teens playing any open mic night, small venue or local festival that would have her while sharing accomplished takes on her favourite songs on social media. That led to deals with Ferocious Talent and Stellar Songs as she began to introduce her talents to the world.
