Around 2022, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a group of local extreme music artists from bands like Defy, Necronomicon Beast, Rotten Entrails, and Venomous Stench formed a band inspired by Godflesh, Nailbomb, Bolt Thrower, and Deviated Instint.
That band has now announced the release of their upcoming debut EP. Drawing on the aforementioned bands, along with a number of other influences and genres, such as Crust, Death Doom, and Industrial, Necrotech found their sound, and now so can you.
The EP consists of five songs that span 21 minutes, including an unnerving intro that atmospherically sets the scene for what is about to happen. By the time Utopia lands, you feel like you are in a sci-fi horror film, and that feeling doesn’t go anywhere.
With the sound of Old School Black Metal, that dirty mix doesn’t hide the Industrial and Crust sound that permeates throughout the sound and with a vocal that matches the aggression and extreme sound – there is no denying that this ticks all the boxes for incredible extreme music.
As the EP continues you can feel the despair around the future of the human race, along with the associated despair.
The way that the sound has been layered is fantastic, wit the electronic drums, the bass and then the electronics that are smattered throughout the music, the result of which is a complex blend that has been done seamlessly and all works brilliantly together.
The reality is that this is not nor was intended for the mass market, it was created as an outlet for the anxieties around a modern world, the “new third world” as it is described by the band and this is their resistance to the static, by creating a sound, a noise that battles and cuts through that pressure. Sometimes to fight fire, you need to use fire and that is what Necrotech have done here, they fight that pipelined noise with their own Industrial Noise and Crust, weaponising the technology and instruments to make a stand.
The 5 tracks speed by, but you feel every Doomy riff along with each drum beat and trudge through the murky undergrowth in this dystopian horror that grips you and doesn’t let go.
I look forward to what it to come from this intriguing band, they have certainly peaked my interest.
Necrotechnology will be released Friday January 17th 2025 via Sentient Ruin.
