Killing of A Sacred Deer has been created to combine the best of Deathcore and Metallic Hardcore and share members with Serration, World of Pleasure, Mortality Rate and Secret & Whisper – the Canadians, Colter and Jordan have created this EP.
Using horror, video games and religion as lyrical inspiration, this 7 track EP abuses you in the most satisfying ways.
Opening with ‘Scarlett Halo’ feat Connor of Guiltless, you are immediately catapulted in this Metallic wall of noise and as you smash through it you are clobbered by uncompromising drums, chugging low guitars and two vocals, both equally as punishing and joyous. This quick welcome to the EP will certainly get you ready for what is to come.
The high-speed drum and guitars slow occasionally for some rather destructive breakdowns and the first time you come across this is in 25.4mm from Death – which again has a guest appearance in the form of Frazer Cassling from Cauldron. This track is going to smash your teeth in and make you grin as it does!
The pace certainly does not slow down, neither does the brutality nor crushing weight of the sounds created by this incredible outfit. The drums just rip and don’t stop, creating a foundation for the rest of the crippling sounds to be built up and get dropped on your skull from a great height.
‘Dried Flowers Bathed in Viscera’ allows for a quick breather (1 minute 53 seconds to be precise) but you can’t relax as you know that as soon as ‘Heaven Progenitor’ lands you will be made to pay for thinking you could expect things to settle down.
Smashing you in the temple, will either floor you or make you want to fight, a real test of your fight, flight, freeze response. If you haven’t fought back then ‘Devotion’ will finish you like a game of Mortal Combat.
Ending with ‘Intro’ this 55-second musical example of Brutal Death Metal is an intro to you pressing play again to continue the beat down that the EP has started and the masochist in you has enjoyed the battering.
Killing of A Sacred Deer is not for the weak-hearted nor the infirm. It is as heavy as it is brilliant and is one of my favourite heavy releases of 2024. Fans of heavy–press play!!
Killing of A Sacred Deer will be released Friday, September 5th on Wax Vessel.
