Welsh titans, HIMALAYAS today release their punch-to-the-gut single, Hung Up. The lyrics perfectly encapsulate the main themes of the track, which are uncertainty and unavoidability. Sonically, Hung Up highlights the urgency which is showcased by the band’s signature sound. Produced by Pete Hutchings (Skindred, Nothing But Thieves, Royal Blood and more), the track is sure to go down a storm live this Summer. Listen here, and watch the lyric video here.
Frontman Joe Williams explains of the writing process, “With this song I wanted to create a sense of chaos and a feeling of being smacked in the face by something you didn’t expect. Hung Up was heavily influenced by my teenage years and the music I listened to.”
The Cardiff-based outfit are gearing up to support the mighty Foo Fighters on 25th June at the Principality Stadium, in their hometown. HIMALAYAS are the first band to be invited to SCALE The Principality Stadium, and perform there. They are the first band to perform live on the stadium roof!
HIMALAYAS’ UK headline tour kicked off at a sold out Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh last weekend. They have since made their way around cities including Leeds at a sold out Oporto, and Newcastle. Tonight they play Nottingham’s Rough Trade, a sold out London’s Lower Third tomorrow, and will then wrap things up at Bristol’s Louisiana on 23rd June, which is also sold out. Remaining tickets can be found here.
The band returned with brand new music in March, in the form of with their anthemic single, V.O.V. The track was co-written with none other than the legendary AC/DC frontman, Brian Johnson who said, “When I was played their recordings, I immediately thought they were the perfect band for the song; the attack they bring to V.O.V is musical violence, brilliant!!” The lyrics were gifted to the band via a mutual friend of them all, following Brian hearing the quartet’s music. Listen to V.O.V here.
Worthy of featuring in the soundtrack of a cinematic masterpiece, V.O.V was produced by the sought-after Dan Lancaster (Blink-182, Muse, Bring Me The Horizon), at Miloco studios. This was another huge tick for the HIMALAYAS bucket list. Directed by Ted Clark of London Films, the video can be seen here.
Last year saw HIMALAYAS release their debut album, From Hell To Here, which has racked up 14.5 million streams on Spotify alone, where the band have surpassed 84 million overall streams. The 12-track album, mixed by the GRAMMY Award-winning producer Dave Sardy (Royal Blood, Rage Against The Machine, Oasis), features previously released singles including Leave This Place, album title track From Hell To Here, Into The Trap, Out Of The Dark And Into The Light and Alone.
HIMALAYAS have garnered fantastic support across radio, and have received spins on BBC Radio One’s Rock show from Daniel P Carter and Alyx Holcombe, and from BBC Radio One’s Future Alternative host, Nels Hylton, who declared them “heirs to the indie rock throne”. The band have also previously been added to playlists such as Walk Like A Badass (2.3 million+ likes) and The Rock List (793k+ likes), on Spotify.
